I need a little help, I indexed all my lenses

Now I am at the part with OWM on 3stepads……
I am not sure what “link out” means. Should I just add the rss feeds in the post.

    Thanks

  • 2 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 14, 2009 at 6:57 pm

    Hi Ty -

Link to your lenses from 3stepads, etc … with the keyword phrase that goes with the lens you’re linking to.

    In other words …

Keyword in anchor text => hyperlinked to the lens with for that keyword.

Just the same way we linked out to affiliate programs in our intro modules (see Lesson #20 for a refresher) - here we are linking out from these other sites TO our lenses. Gives Google immediate ways to find you.

You can link out to all the lenses in one post if you want to - saves a bunch of time.

PS. You mean you have them published, right? - next comes indexing …

  • 4 Sheila Newman // Feb 16, 2009 at 1:49 pm

Hooray!! I’ve checked today to see if my 3 lenses have been indexed by Google and I’m on page 1, 2 and 2 for my 3 different lenses.

Thanks for your help Jackie and Andrea.

  • 5 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 16, 2009 at 2:32 pm

that is awesome! is that for your keywords, or for your url?

    Congrats,

    Jackie

    my 3 Squidoo urls

  • 7 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 16, 2009 at 2:46 pm

That’s great. Now you can start working on the promotion and getting people to your lens with your keywords!!

You are doing great! Just keep moving forward, one step at a time. :)

    Hi Jackie, Andrea,

You mentioned above that “Joining fan clubs of people with similar lenses will help build links to your profile.”

I have a question. If I’m promoting an e-book on duck hunting (just for an example), do I find lenses of other people promoting similar products?

I guess what I’m wondering is, do I become a fan of someone who has a competing product/e-book?

    Many thanks,
    Pat

  • 9 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 18, 2009 at 1:56 pm

    Hi Pat -

I would look for complimentary lenses - rather than people who are promoting the very same thing. So hunters in general or people who like the outdoors, or camping equipment - just a few and whatever catches your eye.

Things you can genuinely comment on.

    Andrea

Hey thanks Andrea, that helps clear the way. :)

Yep, it took 2 days but all 12 of my lenses are indexed! Yep, 12 lenses. With the help of you ladies and potpie girl, I learned that I could take my verrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyy lllllloooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggg lenses and break it up into 12 easy to read lenses! (I made a lens before I knew about OWM.)
Potpie Girl was right. Clipclip does help with search engine rankings.
Also, my Squidoo category is Green Living and all 12 of my lenses are now ranked in to 100’s for my category!

  • 12 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 22, 2009 at 11:23 am

    WOO HOO Rebecca.

Rock on baby!! Yes, I find I never get to the bottom of super long lenses ~ even if they are pretty interesting. Better to break them up into little bites I can fit in my mouth all at once.

Dang ~ do I need to eat???

Congrats on your lenses getting indexed. That is a great feeling.

    Jackie

  • 13 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 22, 2009 at 11:50 am

    Good job Rebecca!

It’s good to step away for a bit, eh??
And GREAT way to leverage your work!

Doin’ the happy index dance with ‘ya - grin :)

  • 14 Judith Turner // Feb 23, 2009 at 8:33 pm

Geez I hate asking so many questions but here goes. My lenses are now all indexed (yea!) so I went and joined a bunch of fan clubs. However when I looked in my squidoo dashboard under my favorites there is nothing there. Am I forgetting a site when I am saving them?

  • 15 Judith Turner // Feb 23, 2009 at 8:33 pm

oops I meant to say am I forgetting a step when saving them?

  • 16 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 23, 2009 at 8:39 pm

I believe when you join fanclubs it shows up on the other person’s site not yours ~ which is why we do it. So other people can see your icon when they visit other people’s lenses.

Favoriting a lens is different than joining a fanclub. :)

    oh okay thanks

  • 18 Jay Hurwitz // Mar 7, 2009 at 10:19 am

    Hi Ladies

    Got another question.

My lenses have been indexed. Squidoo has given them a low ranking, which shows up when viewed from a search engine.

Obviously, this is non optimum from a affiliate marketing perspective.

Are there things that I can do to increase the rankings that Squidoo has given to them?

  • 19 Jackie and Andrea // Mar 7, 2009 at 10:51 am

    Hi Jay -

Hmm - well the Squidoo rankings will shift as the lenses age, so no worries there (and in this case the lower the number the ‘better’ - right?).

And Google doesn’t consider them - so again - as far as Google traffic is concerned - not a problem even if they never changed (which they will).

This next stage of promotion and backlinking is the marketing part that’s intended to clue Google in to the idea that your pages should be on their front page.

So begins the marketing phase :)

Sounds like you’re right on track!

    Good job Jay!

    Hi ladies:
I published my 6 lens yesterday morning, and move on to the indexing steps. Five hours later 3 of my lens or indexed by Google. However, the other 3 lenses are not indexed yet. How long should I wait?

  • 23 Jackie and Andrea // Mar 16, 2009 at 7:28 pm

Nice job. Just keep moving forward. It may take some time for some of them to be indexed.

  • 24 Larry Romeo // Mar 19, 2009 at 12:11 am

    I am new to OWM.

How do I determine whether my 4 lens have been indexed by google?

  • 25 Jackie and Andrea // Mar 19, 2009 at 2:41 am

    Hi Larry -

You can either upgrade to read the lessons or find your answer on page 35 of OWM.

    Thanks,
    Andrea

    Jackie/Andrea -
Can you please explain the difference between the ‘Featured Lens’ module and Lensroll. Why do we need to do both to our lenses. I’m having a problem figuring that out.

As always, thanks you very much.
    Jane.

  • 27 Jackie and Andrea // Apr 25, 2009 at 7:28 am

    Jane,

There is a complete description of lensroll, what it is and how to do it on Lesson 33. There is an explanation of how the two are different there as well.

  • 28 Carole Rowland // May 24, 2009 at 9:48 pm

Page 34 of OWM, PPG says she also likes ClipClip and ClipMarks, what exactly are we suppose to do in these sites?

  • 29 Jackie and Andrea // May 24, 2009 at 10:06 pm

    Hi Carole -

Those are bookmarking sites. When you bookmark your own sites/lenses - this also counts as a backlink.

    Andrea

  • 30 Carole Rowland // May 24, 2009 at 10:10 pm

Will Bookmarking be covered in another lesson? I am not familiar with them.

  • 31 Jackie and Andrea // May 24, 2009 at 10:27 pm

Here’s a quick video I did about using clipmarks. You’ll have to go to clipmarks.com and download the program. Then you can follow along with the video.

    http://www.screencast.com/t/yzCsuw6At3

    Jackie

  • 32 Jackie and Andrea // May 24, 2009 at 10:28 pm

You can also go to clipmarks.com and clipclip.com and read the instructions they provide. I think they have some good videos there as well.

It has been several days, several blog posts (including my own) and feeds submitted but my lens is still not indexed. I am just assuming that it will get indexed eventually and should move on.

  • 34 Jackie and Andrea // May 28, 2009 at 4:11 pm

Yes, as long as you have some of lenses of your campaign indexed I would just move on.

  • 35 Linda Servis // May 29, 2009 at 11:29 am

PPG suggests SENuke for social bookmarking, but it costs $67 per month. So she suggests socialmarket.com as a free alternative. I looked at that tutorial, and I think it is awful–you could maybe get 5 or 10 placements rather than the 160 they say they can do. Do you have any free or cheap alternatives to SENuke?

Also I don’t get what you do with clipclip after you have clipped an article?

  • 36 Jackie and Andrea // May 29, 2009 at 1:25 pm

    Hi Linda,

Social bookmarking is one tool to help you get links back to your lens.

You can use social marker ~ or onlywire to bookmark your links ~ however, here’s my personal opinion ~ bookmarking is NOT as powerful as it used to be. I would find 4 or 5 bookmarking sites that you like and post your link to those sites.

Most good bookmarking sites will have a bookmarklet you can put in your address bar. Just go to the page you want to bookmark and click the tool in your bar ~ it will do it automatically. I highly recommend stumbleupon ~ just make sure you stumble some sites between stumbling your own (you know actually PARTICIPATE in the community) and then find 1 or 2 bookmarking sites you like.

Personally the only bookmarking site I use for links it stumbleupon ~ and clipmarks.

Other than that I use 1 bookmarking site to keep track of the sites I love ~ you know, what bookmarking is intended for ;) and that’s it.

Clipclip ~ after you clip the article you save it to your account. It’s just another bookmarking site. Same as when you bookmark a link to your lens ~ this one you just bookmark a bit of the content.

Thinking of it from OUTSIDE a marketers perspective ~ say I see a great quote somewhere online. I want to remember it. I can clip it and then find it in my clipclip acct later when I want to use it again.

  • 37 Linda Servis // May 30, 2009 at 6:38 pm

Getting a tad discouraged. It’s been all week and my lenses are not indexed. When you say repeat the steps, what do you mean. Cuz I already have blogs up on the 3 sites. I have fan clubbed and participated in the community.

Should I go forward or wait till I am indexed?

  • 38 Jackie and Andrea // May 30, 2009 at 6:45 pm

Sometimes it takes a while ~ I couldn’t hurt to go back to the 3 free ad blogs (3stepads, unique etc), and make another set of posts there.

Make sure you are using your keywords as the anchor text of your links back to your lenses.

After that I’d just continue with the process.

    Jackie

  • 39 Linda Servis // May 31, 2009 at 5:56 pm

I think I lost a post here. Re getting indexed. I looked in PPG guide and she said to put http://www.squidoo.com/myurl in the search box. When I did that some of my stuff came up. But it looked all funny. It would go to a blog, and you had to click around to find the lenses. Also some of the things that came up were similar to my subject matter but I couldn’t really tell if it was me. Nothing came up nicely land neatly and if you made one click you’d be at my lens. Also on one of my urls, only my lensmaster bio came up, not the lens.

Am I doing something wrong with the linking out?

  • 40 Linda Servis // May 31, 2009 at 6:06 pm

Sorry about this, but I know it’s important and I am (perhaps) not getting it. When I put site:squidoo.com/myurl in the search box, I never get anything back.

  • 41 Carole Rowland // Jun 1, 2009 at 5:24 pm

    Hi Andrea and Jackie,

I know you say it may take some time to get your lens indexed, but 4 out of my 6 got indexed within a few days. 2 are still not indexed and they were published on May 2. Do I still wait or is this unusually long?
    Any suggestions?

  • 42 Jackie and Andrea // Jun 1, 2009 at 5:27 pm

I hope you are not waiting ~ I hope you are taking further action and if you are finished with the necessary actions of OWM for this campaign, beginning another one.

OWM is all about doing something repeatedly, so no I don’t think you should continue to “wait” I think you should complete the action steps for this campaign and then move on to your next.

    Jackie

  • 43 Jackie and Andrea // Jun 1, 2009 at 5:28 pm

    Linda,

It looks like I missed your comment. If you are putting site:squidoo.com/yourlensname in the Google search box and you are getting nothing back it simply means your lens has not yet been indexed into the Google search results.

    Jackie

  • 44 Jackie and Andrea // Jun 1, 2009 at 5:30 pm

    Linda,

Just to make sure ~ you have PUBLISHED your lenses right?

    Jackie

  • 45 Carole Rowland // Jun 1, 2009 at 5:47 pm

    Hi Jackie,

I didn’t mean that I was actually waiting, I just wanted to see if there was anything specific to do to just those 2lens (maybe KW change, etc.), or just leave them alone. I am going back today and double checking everything and have already started looking for ideas for my next campaign.

    Thanks for everything,

  • 46 Jackie and Andrea // Jun 1, 2009 at 5:51 pm

Do NOT change your keywords. If you change your keywords you will have to start all over.

The process is all about Google finding your lens and understanding it is related to those keywords.

If you have 4 lenses indexed I wouldn’t pay it one more minute of attention. Those 4 will do the work for you until the others get indexed.

If you have finished the tasks outlined in OWM for this campaign, I suggest you start your next. :)

    Hi ladies,

I just wanted to add something here that I learned about indexing and checking page rank with Google that may save some serious frustration. I know it did me once I learned what was going on.

It’s called personalized search. Google sees that you visit your site often, assumes it must be a site you like and find valuable, and so it will tend to display that site higher in the results when you make searches that it ranks for. In other words you may look like your on the 1st pg but your not. It has to do with being signed in on your Google account.

So to be sure you are not getting mis-information, sign out of your account and search again and see where your page is. If it’s the same as when you are signed in, great that’s where you are ranked. If it’s… different the page rank when you are signed out of your account is your actual ranking.

Learned this the hard way after getting pg. 1 and #1 spot a couple of times on a lens only to find out I was really on pg. 5

WA members you can read the discussion this started over at Wealthy Affiliate under General Marketing Discussion - Google 1st page IE compared to Firefox.

  • 48 Jackie and Andrea // Jun 4, 2009 at 8:47 pm

This is true when you are checking for search engine placement ~ but if your lens isn’t indexed it still won’t show up.

This doesn’t really affect indexing, but it is true when you’re looking at search engine result placement.

    Jackie

  • 49 Linda Servis // Jun 7, 2009 at 2:51 pm

A moderator in a fan club I joined told me to turn my contact button on. Where is that button? Also she said to visit the fan club and “add lens to lens link”. How do I do that?

  • 50 Jackie and Andrea // Jun 7, 2009 at 3:19 pm

There really is no “moderator” each person has a fan club ~ you have one, I have one. Every lensmaster has one.

You can change your contact status by going to your dashboard ~ click on “edit bio” in top left hand corner next to your picture. If you scroll down you’ll see “allow contact” in your account settings area. All you have to do is click the “change” link on the right hand side. Then make sure you save your changes.

I’m not sure what they mean by add lens to lens link?? maybe they mean add it to your lensroll? But you certainly do NOT have to do that.

    Jackie

  • 51 Jackie and Andrea // Jun 7, 2009 at 4:16 pm

Or maybe you mean group moderator?

If so - Go to the group page - in the group details on the side, there’s a link right under “make a new lens” that says “add existing lens”.

    Hi Jackie and Andrea,
On Wednesday, I tried to get my lense indexed. I went to the three blog sites and made a post, I submitted my RSS feeds and then joined fanclubs on Squidoo. Today is Friday, my lense sitll isn’t indexed, do you think I should check again tomorrow and if it isn’t indexed, do the three blog posts again?

    Hope this makes sense.
    thanks
    sue

  • 56 Jackie and Andrea // Dec 5, 2009 at 9:44 am

Just remember this is a process. It’s not something you can just “go out and do”. You have to leave some bread crumbs so google can follow the trail and find your lens. If you want to leave more crumbs then go for it.

Make sure you’re using your keywords as the anchor text of your links in the free ad blog posts.

    Jackie
