When you set up an account at Squidoo you will have to have an email address. For your first account you can use whatever email address you like, but when you start creating accounts for specific campaigns you want to create an email that will go with that campaign.

Wow! I just ordered OWM and it IS overwhelming!
Thank you for making this site to break OWM down.
I am now going to go set up my gmail account for my main Squidoo account.
-Rebecca.

Good for you Rebecca!
And thanks for the thumbs up - it’s always good to hear that our work here is helping others get clear
Just follow along, ask questions here as they come up for you and you’ll be through the whole process once before you know it.
Second time around, you’ll be a pro - grin.
Appreciate you,
Andrea

Ok, I am a good girl and joined and did what you said. I officially have a gmail account. Glad to read the response from Rebecca saying OWM is overwhelming. Have not looked at it, but I won’t let it scare me! We will all do it together!! I won’t fail this time. I have learned that the real “failure” is not doing….for whatever reason. Even if I am lost or freaked out….like Nike says….I am just going to “do it”! I am committing to myself to following this daily and doing the tasks.
4 Jackie and Andrea // Jan 10, 2009 at 7:12 am
Kati - Good job getting in and getting started!
You’re totally right - not taking action is THE only way to fail here.
Nothing to get freaked out about - just follow the lessons and you’ll get there at exactly the right pace for you
Be sure and read along in the ebook each day also so you know where we’re headed and pop in here whenever you want clarification.
This stuff isn’t hard, there’s just a lot of puzzle pieces that have to come together to make it flow.
You can do this!

Gmail lets you have multiple accounts?

Yes, Bill, you can have as many gmail accounts as you want.

Reading the above, how do you forward your email from campaign a/c’s to my main a/c. What is my main a/c?
As I don’t have a campaign going at the moment, I didn’t feel I could make my user name in reference to a campaign. Hope this won’t be a problem for me.
Can’t say I found opening this a/c easy but I think I’ve done it.
10 Jackie and Andrea // Jan 31, 2009 at 7:15 am
Hi Joyce -
Sounds like you have created yourself a first gmail account?
Today’s goal is to do just that - now you have - cool! Tomorrow is another piece of the puzzle.
When you go in to make your first Squidoo account, use this gmail where it’s requested and that will be your “Main” Squidoo account - a place where you can play and test new ideas.
Theme specific Squidoo account and Gmail combination will come later.
Sounds like you’re doing great
Now go take a break - grin.

Hi Jackie, Andrea,
I’ve already purchased the One Week Marketing program and have started moving through it a bit.
I just set up another gmail account that I will use with my new campaign because I’m hitting the ‘reset’ button on everything that I’ve been thinking of starting and will follow along with YOUR tutorials and use those to help me get through the One Week Marketing plan.
Cheers,
Pat
12 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 1, 2009 at 12:39 pm
Welcome Pat!
Good job getting started - and don’t scrap anything just yet. Just start a new campaign fresh.
No effort has been wasted - you may well be able to tie what you’ve already done in somewhere later.
Glad to have you
Andrea

Hi guys! I’m refreshing myself with lesson one and I have a question regarding this. I had already opened a squidoo account last year with a user name and my regular aol email address to write my one and only squidoo page on where I grew up. The goal wasn’t to make money on that page but to learn how to do squidoo. I have opened a gmail account now. Should I open another squidoo account and make up another user id name and start using the gmail account? Or should I stick with my old squidoo id and go from there just now using a gmail account?
14 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 1, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Hi Dawn -
I would use the gmail account with a new account - save your aol address/squidoo for personal stuff

18 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 1, 2009 at 8:21 pm
My heavens, I run to town for a few hours on a Sunday and this place gets exciting!
Dawn, I agree with Andrea, it’s a great idea to have a “main” or “personal” account. Mine is my testing ground. Where if I find a keyword or have an idea, I just throw up a quick lens on the topic and see what it does.
This is a great way to test your markets, and see if your keywords are going to work.
You will end up with a lot of accounts and a lot of email addresses if you keep up with OWM.
It’ s a good idea to keep track of all that info ~ that’s what’s great about the checklist PotPieGirl included in OWM it lets you keep track of all that information, as well as all you’ve done on any given campaign.
Jackie
19 Joyce Thorburn // Feb 1, 2009 at 11:15 pm
Well, I’m so glad I’m here. I’ve been a squidoo member since I don’t remember when and never had the courage to make a lens.
I made 2 lenses and was working on my third when I decided to buy OWM.
Awesome!!!!
I know the basics but have a lot of technical things I get stuck with.
Enough of that!
I’ve a personal gmail account and get about 89 emails a day. More actually if I include all my Ezinearticle Alerts. How do I stop those alerts??
And I have lots of e-mail I can unsubscribe from. Or should I still have another “personal” gmail account?
So glad I’ve found you!!
Joyce
20 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 2, 2009 at 9:13 am
Hey Joyce,
Great to have you here! You can keep that gmail for your personal stuff. You will be creating a new gmail for each account so you can open separate Squidoo accounts. (you have to have a different email for each). This is just to keep your niches separate so you have greater authority as well as keeping your niches a “secret” lol.
21 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 2, 2009 at 9:13 am
I got distracted and hit the button lol. Good luck and if you have any other questions, just ask.

22 brett jarvi // Feb 6, 2009 at 8:52 am
Hi, Thanks for the extra help, as you know, a search for an answer to a simple question can take some time. Not to mention all the “shiny things” along the way that can hamper productivity. My Question: The “Test Lens”- In just throwing up a test lens, how exactly, can you get a read off of a stand alone lens? And what are you hoping to learn? Thanks,
Brett
23 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 6, 2009 at 9:56 am
Hey Brett,
Good question. You will be surprised what a stand alone lens can do lol. If you get a good keyword it can take off on its own.
I would do the indexing help that PotPieGirl mentions in the book, and then just leave it (the test lens) it may take off it may not. If it does it gives you proof that topic is getting traffic and a place to expand you know people are looking for information.
I have single lenses that make over $300 a month, and I have thrown up test lenses that have shown me that I should start a campaign on a topic I didn’t think was really going to work, but it did.
Once you throw up your test lenses, leave them alone, check on them once in a while and see if you have any traffic. Check the stats link and then the traffic link. You will see all the traffic you are getting and where it’s coming from. If you start getting google traffic it’s probably worth expanding into a campaign.
If you don’t get any traffic, don’t worry about it. Just leave it, you never know, one day 6 months from now you might open your dashboard and see traffic for it ~ yes, it does happen.
Hope that has helped.
Jackie
24 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 6, 2009 at 9:59 am
Hi Brett -
Shiny things - yeah those can be super pesky, eh?? I know just what you mean.
And that ’save time on the simple things’ is exactly what we hope accomplish here so totally appreciate hearing that!
As far as test lenses - they’ll still get traffic if developed with this narrow focus approach and you’ll be able to evaluate the keywords that each one gets found for … decide if you want to do a full blown campaign (several lenses - related topic). You’ll also get a feel for whether it’s something you can write for or bores you to tears
The campaigns are about covering more ground in a topic that you decide you want to ‘own more real estate’ on. Later when you link your lenses together, it’ll be like having your own ’section’ within Squidoo. And when they leave your page, chances are then better that they’ll not be leaving your campaign.
But it all starts with a single lens.
That help?
Andrea

Hi Jackie and Andrea,
Simple but helpful. I’d been wondering how to forward my email from gmail to my main account. But then on the other hand,I’ve been using one gmail account to redirect my main account subscriptions to so I don’t get so many in my main email account! lol
So one question- do you set up a different ID and profile with each Squidoo lens linked to a separate gmail account?
Cheers,
Tamar
30 Jackie and Andrea // Mar 5, 2009 at 8:28 pm
Tamar,
Yes, you will set up a new email account for each campaign because you will need a different squidoo acct for each campaign.
Jackie
31 Tamar Goldstein // Mar 5, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Thanks for your fast reply.
However, what I meant was-your actual Profile on each lens. Would I be, say Tamar, on every lens even though each has a separate gmail addy?
Or would it be better to have another profile if I wert into different niches?
Thanks
Tamar
32 Jackie and Andrea // Mar 5, 2009 at 8:44 pm
Let’s be clear. You will be setting up a campaign and you will have an email address for each campaign, not each lens.
This will all be covered in future lessons, don’t worry, just keep reading.

You say” pick something that relates to your campaign”. huh?
34 Jackie and Andrea // Mar 8, 2009 at 10:43 am
Oh Hey Ross -
I don’t know how we missed this the other day - but we did - sorry about that!
Since you haven’t started your first campaign (set of related Squidoo pages - we’ll get to those in the next few lessons) yet, just grab a gmail name you’re comfortable with so you can keep this stuff separate from your personal email.
Consider this your first business email account.
Hope this helps,
Andrea

Happy Sunday to all! So I’ve finished reading thru all the other marketing ifno I’ve gotten from all the other shiny stuff out there, have had monthly membership to this site for a week or so now and just got OWM last night. I’ve read the whole first week of this site and now that I’m thru all the “other stuff” I’ve been subscribing to, I’m ready to focus on just OWM and Learn it Step by Step, will be upgrading to annual on this in another week or so…my main question is do you recommend I read all thru OWM then with that in hand, come back to this site and go thru it day by day, or should I be going thru both OWM and this site step by step before I even read thru all of OWM? I think that’s a silly question, lol but if you did have one specific course of action that you see better…
Thanks so much! Joel
40 Jackie and Andrea // Mar 22, 2009 at 11:50 am
Hi Joel -
Wow your head must be spinning from all that shiny stuff - grin.
I would say the best thing to do is read through OWM once - just to get a feel for where this is all taking you (big picture) and as you’re doing it - don’t sweat the stuff that you don’t “get”.
It’s all covered in the lessons.
This first week of lessons (as you’ve seen) covers the most critical part of starting any online niche marketing (whether you do it the OWM ‘way’ or not) - huge to get good at doing keyword research.
You can do this! I’m excited for you
Thanks for letting us know you’re here and ready to get busy!
Make it a great day,
Andrea

Hi,
Thanks for breaking down everything into bit sized pieces. However I’m getting impatient now. How long would it take following your system, to set up a full OWM campaign and actually get the first sales, assuming I do every action step each day?
44 Jackie and Andrea // Apr 2, 2009 at 4:13 pm
Grin - Welcome Ozer
I would guess that you can probably get through more than one lesson each day if your feeling antsy already - grin.
Go at whatever pace suits you! There’s a list of lessons here:
http://www.learnitstepbystep.com/toc
Be sure though and be thorough with the keyword lessons - the more you let your mind wander with that step, the better the niches you’ll come up with.
Andrea
45 Ozer Tayiz // Apr 3, 2009 at 6:55 am
I’m a “monthly basic” subscriber, so I will only access the lessons one week at a time.
However, I noticed that I can do “more than the minimum” each day (I’m unemployed, working on this full time). I can work on 3-5 campaigns at the same time, instead of just one, for example. Also, with the “checklist” and OWM ebooks already with me, I can move forward whether there is a “lesson” I can apply or not. And then go with the lessons as they come.
46 Jackie and Andrea // Apr 3, 2009 at 6:57 am
Absolutely Ozer, that sounds like a great plan!

Hi I just started OWM today have my check list .Only thing I did not get was edit payment option.I think it shows up on first lens. I have a web page and a campaign going there the web site is still being worked on.I am not sure how your tutorials work .
48 Jackie and Andrea // Apr 6, 2009 at 3:32 pm
Welcome Bruce
Good job getting all the ’stuff’ you’ll want at hand as you do this.
Edit payment option in Squidoo will be live after you publish your first lens (I think that’s what you’re talking about?)
The lessons here on our site follow OWM fairly closely with a little of ‘us’ thrown in here and there. Each post has a comment section where you can clarify anything that’s not clicking.
When you login you will see the lesson groups that are available according to the membership you purchased (monthly is delivered a week at a time, annual all at once) - only thing to understand is that each lesson group begins on the bottom of the page (this is built on a blog so newest is on top).
Hope that helps?
Glad to have you with us!

51 Barbara Paine // May 27, 2009 at 5:36 pm
Question about the test lenses that have been discussed already. How do you determine whether to start with a test lens or go right into a campaign. For example, with Nick, PPG had him go right into a campaign. Is that the way to go when just getting started and then later, after having a few campaigns under your belt, is that when you start making test lenses for all your campaign ideas — to see if they’ll go anywhere before putting the effort into a full blown campaign? Do you do this with all your lens ideas or just the ones you have doubts about?
I’m just a little confused about when to do test lenses … thanks!
52 Jackie and Andrea // May 27, 2009 at 6:01 pm
I do test lenses a lot ~ I have an idea or a thought, and just put a lens up. It doesn’t take much time so it’s nice to see if it will take off or not. If it does then I build more of a campaign.
It’s probably smart to try a couple campaigns first so you can get a good feel for the process ~ then try some test lenses ~ it’s always nice to know ahead of time if something’s got some legs to stand on.
Once you have some test lenses take off you can always keep doing test lenses for new ideas while you build campaigns around things that are working.
Jackie
53 Barbara Paine // May 27, 2009 at 8:11 pm
Hi Jackie —
That, of course, makes sense. I’m just wondering now how much effort you put into the test lenses … do you do all the keyword research, etc. that we’re taught to do in OWM? Do you go so far as to promote a product, buy a domain, write articles, and so forth?
I don’t know if this whole topic will be covered in more detail later into your program or not. PPG really just mentions it in her book and CWN so I’m not sure how to proceed when the time is right.
Thanks again.
54 Jackie and Andrea // May 27, 2009 at 8:54 pm
I do BRIEF keyword research, find one keyword that works for the lens ~ grab a related product or use amazon or ebay modules.
I do the free blogs for links, usually do one article for EZA, and link from a general blogger blog I have and then leave it and see what happens.
Jackie
55 Barbara Paine // May 27, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Perfect plan — thanks! That’s just what I needed to know
56 Barbara Paine // May 30, 2009 at 11:58 am
One quick question in regards to your mention of a “link from a general blogger blog I have” in comment 54.
PPG mentions that the goal is to have your own blog. I assumed she meant a blog on a particular topic that is worth putting the effort into based on a successful campaign.
I suspect you are referring to something different here. Would it be wise to somehow start a personal blog that we would create solely for the purpose of having additional backlinks to our lenses? Is that what you mean? And if you do, would it be possible to provide a link to an example?
I’m not sure how I would create a blog with such a wide range of topics (I mean, what would my central blog theme be?)
57 Jackie and Andrea // May 30, 2009 at 1:00 pm
Hi Barbara -
A free blog for backlinking purposes is what we’re talking about here - not the ‘Authority’ type of blog that PPG talks about coming later.
Having a general theme is good (links coming from a health blog to a health topic lens will be more meaningful), but not super critical.

Hi Jackie & Andrea,
Is it alright to have multiple gmail accounts using the same first name and last name under the same IP address, but with different usernames, of course?
Or, is it better to create them using different pen names( in the first name and last name) for each of the accounts?
What do you all normally do for yourselves? Please advise.
Thanks

66 Jackie and Andrea // Jun 17, 2009 at 4:36 am

As far as I know there’s no limit to the number of gmail accounts one can own. Usually I use my name - occasionally I choose a pen name for my bio and then find it less confusing to keep everything matching up. Your call really.

Ok, first thing done…already created my gmail account for my main squidoo account and connected to Thunderbird.

Thank you!!! I’ve been getting ready to try internet marketing for 6 months and seriously trying for a month - mainly a month of confusion! You know what they say, when the student is ready the teacher appears - and here you are!

I actually do have a question. I read in the Squidoo payment info that you need to use your PayPal email address to get paid. So if I use a gmail address to open a new campaign, how do I get paid?
73 Jackie and Andrea // Jul 22, 2009 at 2:08 pm
Congrats on getting started Lauree, that’s really half the battle~
Your paypal and account address do not have to be the same. Just use your paypal address for all of your accounts and you will get paid.

Okay - so I’ve already done that step and set up a “generic” gmail account to use. However, I can’t do the forwarding part until I actually start a campaign and have a specific gmail account for that campaign correct?
I have been trying to get this internet marketing off the ground for the last few months, but now I will start over with your site and go through all the steps one at a time to make sure I don’t lose track.
Thanks!!
75 Jackie and Andrea // Aug 2, 2009 at 7:12 pm
What you’ll want to do is create a new gmail for each campaign (each new Squidoo account needs a unique email). So yeah wait till you have one you want to point somewhere then come back and do that part.
Good to start fresh
These lessons are a really solid foundation - cover a little of everything.

Hi Girls.
I just joined your course today (one year sub). at 72 year of age I don’t know if I am out of my depth but will percivere.
I have purchased and read OWM ebook and started your week 1 course at the bottom like you advise ( Greating a New Gmail Account)
I already have another google email account and when I signed up to that account I could not find out where to sign up for another account.
sounds silly but Iam lost on this one, if its not to much trouble, help would be great.
I will try not to bother you to much in the future

Hey don’t worry about it, that’s what we’re here for! You have to log out of your current account (and you could totally use the email address you already have for the first campaign if you want).
Once you log out and go to the google gmail page you’ll see a sign up for new account link ~ it’s on the right hand side. To see it you have to be logged out of your current account though.
Hope that helps, if not, let me know and I’ll try again.

I just joined and this looks like it will be a good program. However, I am already confused. How can be set up a Gmail account in lesson 1 that relates to our campaign i.e. saltlamp@gmail.com when we have not yet chosen a campaign.
86 Jackie and Andrea // Dec 3, 2009 at 5:05 pm
You’re going to need an email address to even get started at squidoo ~ if you want to go through the rest and then open your account that’s cool.
87 Jackie and Andrea // Dec 3, 2009 at 5:06 pm
The lesson actually talks about setting up a “general” account. This first one is for your test lenses and general stuff, not your first campaign.

I think I’m a little ahead of myself. I’ve opened up a Squido account using my every day email address. Should I set up a gmail account and forget about the Squido account that I’ve already set up?

no the one you have is fine. You may want new accounts if you go into very different niches in the future.

Hey Andrea
I am a little confused with the assigning Gmail accounts. So help me understand here:
1. First Gmail account I opened is the main mail account for my business. Then…
2. I create a second Gmail account and assign it to be my Squido Account.
3. Thirdly I create a series of email account for my campaigns (each one specific for each campaing. And I keept adding new ones to as many campaings I ad.
I am correct on this or way out of the loop, sorry for too many questions.
The same thing goes to all the Squidoo accounts I must create; no problem here, I just want to know:
1. My first Squidoo acc. (the only one I have now) will be dedicated as MY TEST ACCOUNT to test lenses. This account has my profile and all my main info.
2. Now I will need to create new accounts as I begin to create new campaigns each one will have of course the PayPal info and the email with use with PayPal . In these new accounts what do I do on the profile page? write in the same personal info as in the first acc. Will they allow me to open as many accounts as need all under my own name? Or should I create acc. with some other info. Sorry for the Long Play.

Hi Arnold -
You won’t need multiple paypal emails. You can use the same one in your profiles over and over.
But you will need a new email each time you want a new Squidoo account for a themed campaign. That’s the only thing they require - a new email for each account. It’s how you sign in to Squidoo - with an email account.
We cover the profile/ bio area in a lesson that’s coming. Read on
Andrea
Yes, you can have multiple Squidoo accounts, no problem.
93 Jackie and Andrea // Jan 12, 2010 at 9:23 am
You’ve basically got it right. You’ll have a gmail and a squidoo account for each campaign ( so the lenses in that account will all be related). It’s nice to set up these accounts with related words/phrases. So if you were doing a campaign on dog training you could get a gmail address and squidoo acct related to dog training.
in the profile you can use your own name or an alias ~ whichever feels more comfortable to you. You will want to put in information that is pertinent to the campaign topic, not necessarily your personal information (unless you have a personal story about the topic)

Hello girls,
When you create your gmail account, it should be related to your campaign. Let’s assume I’m gonna make a campaign about baby showers. My gmail account should loook like this babyshowers(at)gmail.com.
But as you stated in the lesson, this account should be your main account, wich will hold the test lenses. Should this main account also be related to a campaign, or can it be a more generic username.
I created a squidoo account a while back using my primary mail account which is not a gmailaccount. Can I use this one as my main account to hold my test lenses?
Regards,
Philippe

Hi Philippe -
Yep, using your original Squidoo account for test lenses is fine

Hey Jackie and Andrea,
I did set up my gmail and have an address. I followed the directions to import my other email accounts. ( What is the reason for doing this? I really need base-line help-I have little computer knowledge/just learning. Why shouldn’t I use my current email through
AOL or rocketmail??? Lori

Hi Jackie and Andrea,
I have another question-Was I supposed to read an eBOOK before I did this? Is this why I feel like I’m missing part of the puzzel? Where are the eBOOK recommendations?

Hi Jackie and Andrea,
I use Outlook Express at work, so I’m familiar at least with how to use it, but I don’t have that on my home computer. With regard to the main gmail account to be set up, you say, “You can also use that one account for a desk top email service like thunderbird or outlook express.” I’m unclear what that means. Is there a way of making my new main gmail address my Outlook Express home address? What are the advantages of using something like Outlook Express? Thanks! –Gary

Hi Gary -
Since you’re going back and forth between two locations, it might make sense to stick to using gmail online rather than downloading it into an email client.
To manage that feature (if you do want to forward it or use a system-side email software) got to ’settings’ on the top right of your gmail account as indicated above.

Thanks Andrea, I’ll leave it simple for now, just the gmail online. Got the gmail account set up!
