All I can say is WOW! Your tutoring in this and the last lesson has helped me to find a narrow down a niche which is demonstrating 500-2000 search volumes and 500 to 14000 page results average for each long-tail keyword I find…amazing!
    Thanks bunches,
    Peggy

    Good morning,

How can I find out what lenses actually produced the sale.

When I click buy on the product I am promoting, it shows the word clickbank in the url, but not my clickbank ID. Now I do have the domain forward, is that the reason.

When you click all the way through to a product you are promoting while using your own domain, do you still see your clickbank ID?

How can I check my myself better when I am setting up theses links so that I am sure that I am linked and will be getting paid.

    Thanks

  • 6 Jackie and Andrea // Mar 23, 2009 at 6:17 am

    Hi Ty -

    This lesson covers domain forwarding:
    http://www.learnitstepbystep.com/all-about-domain-forwarding.html

For tracking - you have the option when you create your hoplink at CB to add a tracking code. This would be something that you could identify each lens with. You would need hosting to go with your domain name to create individual domains to forward each new hoplink.

It’s up to you at what point tracking becomes important. It’s not actually something that’s covered in OWM - the focus is more to get multiple campaigns online and have the traffic/ income flowing.

Perhaps, we can do a supplemental lesson later on in the mix here somewhere.

Oh and to answer your other question about double checking that the sale is getting credited - you’ll find that PPG has covered this on the bottom of page 31 in the main OWM guide.

Is there any free (or low priced) tool that grabs the competition results from Google, so that I can see the searches/competition side by side? Free tool gives me no competition info, and I have like 200 keywords on my list, it’s boring to check competition one by one manually.

  • 9 Jackie and Andrea // Apr 27, 2009 at 6:54 am

    Hi Ozer,

There are tools that will do this, but they are not free. When you are starting it is best to do it yourself, that way you get a feel for niches, keywords, what might work.

This beginning stuff really lays the foundation for being able to pick really good keywords later on ~ it just gives you all this experience to draw upon.

Yeah, it’s boring, but there are things that are going to be a lot more boring lol.

Turn on a podcast you like or a CD so you can at least enjoy what you’re listening to during the really boring parts.

    Hi Both

Despite my new resolution not to get sidetracked I just had to send this comment because I know that today is the day I will look back on and say ” that’s when I started”.

I joined today after getting OWM yesterday. I’ve been ‘researching’ Internet Marketing since I discovered it’s existance some 6 months ago. I’ve spent countless hours and nearly £1000 looking for …… you know what? I don’t really know! I was being led from pillar to post by people posing as my new best friend when all they really wanted was to get me on their list and sell me crap. The only thing I learnt from this hard lesson was how good they are at doing it! (Or am I just a sucker?). Anyway the thing is this. PPG built the foundation with OWM and you girls are giving me the blueprints, guidance and supervision that will push me to that magical place I’ve been looking for. BUt the thing I really wanted to highlight was that just now I came upon this post that hit me like a sledgehammer because it absolutely nails the reason that so many fail.

“If you’re willing to do for a year what others won’t,
you can do for a lifetime what others CAN’T!”

No where is this more true than not letting yourself get sucked in by shiny things.

You have in front of you a system that if followed for the next year will allow you to do what most people can’t. It’s up to you, to spend the time you do have for internet marketing wisely. Stick to tasks, stick to the plan. Use the One Week Marketing Action Plan. It will show you exactly what you need to be doing on any given day.

Now I realize we are progressing slowly this first time through. But once you get the hang of it your next campaign will go much faster. The one after that will go even faster. The key is to stay focused, stop looking for new ways to improve an already good system. Stop trying out new tools and just do what you need to do for that day.

Finally, stop spending money. You have what you need right in your hands right now. There’s no need to fork out any more cash on “the next best thing” or the “next best tool”. All you are doing is moving yourself farther away from profit and right now you are working toward making money, not spending money. So the next time an urge to buy comes along, go to the beginning of OWM and start a new campaign. Start putting money back into your pocket instead of taking it out.

This is the best advice anyone could ever get and I for one am incredibly grateful that my quest is over. Thank you so much for your fantastic work. This time next year!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Jackie and Andrea,

I’m trying to follow along and have been working on my first keyword campaign using the adwords tool. PPG’s OWMP also suggests using seobook.com — what are your thoughts?

I have been trying to get information from that tool (I thought it was free but maybe no longer?) and am just frustrated. I can’t seem to get any readouts after plugging in my keyword. It says to download to .csv but when I do I get a blank spreadsheet. Argh.

Perhaps their format has changed? I’m not even sure if I’m clicking through to the correct tool at this point. It’s just frustrating and certainly not very user friendly.

So is using the free adwords tool enough? I know PPG now suggests SENukeFree too but I’d rather stick with free at this point. Maybe there is something else that I should be using?

    Thanks …

you’ll see we highly recommend the free google keyword tool. You will find it in lesson #6

  • 14 Jackie and Andrea // May 25, 2009 at 10:06 am

    Barbara,

You may find you will get everything you need if you go step by step through this site. It’s laid out in the order you will need thing, and the resources you will need are laid out as you go. Just remember you have to start out at the bottom of the page to go in order of the content ~ just watch the lesson numbers and go in order. :)

  • 15 Jackie and Andrea // May 25, 2009 at 10:20 am

    Hi Barbara -

One other thought - you should test your settings on the keyword tool using some other broad keyword like “books” - you will see (if it’s set up right) that you get 150 or so variations of phrases using books.

Make sure it’s not just that keyword that’s not getting results.

    Hi Jackie and Andrea,
I feel not as stressed now that I have a niche and some keywords. I feel like I am finally getting my feet under me now. Thank you SO MUCH for your help so far. Also, thank you for the link about coaching with Jackie. And, also thank you for looking out for me by deleting my niche details and suggesting to use keyword 1 etc. I didn’t obviously think of that. I also today have signed up for my Clickbank account.

I just have two quick questions for today:
1.When we do Squidoo, we make a test lens for each of our keywords?
2.This is maybe needless worrying, but won’t be it hard to promote products when we are in a recession? People may not be spedning money as much. I may be over analayzing or worrying.
Hope you ladies enjoy your Sunday and I am going to “rest” up to start Squidoo lessons tommorrow.
    thanks
    sue

You can go either way ~ you can do test lenses, just one or you can build full campaigns with multiple related keywords tied together.

I suggest you try to do a little bit of both. As you build more test lenses you will see some will take off, those are the ones you want to go look for more related keywords and build it out.

I personally like doing test lenses, they are quick to put up and you don’t waste a lot of time if the campaign doesn’t end up taking off.

About people buying ~ don’t be fooled. If people are looking for it (search volume) they are buying it. There are plenty of people out there that have money and are spending it.

    Hi Jackie and Andrea

You are right about a lot of things but the one thing I needed to hear was: “STOP SPENDING MONEY”.

I am having trouble staying focused (guess it’s my age since I am a semi-retired baby boomer) lol! but that’s not going to stop me, I plan to be the poster child for the boomer generation in internet marketing, if the position is not already spoken for lol again!

I need a dummy down, step by step for adding links to my keywords. HELP!!!

Keep up the excellent work, Potpiegirl has finally gotten me to believe that I can really do this. I now feel like the sky is the limit, all I have to do is just follow instructions, stick to the plan and ask questions.

    Thanks
    Gloria

    Hi Jackie and Andrea,

Well, this module is certainly something I needed to hear. I got sidetracked with my new shiny thing Micro Niche Finder and made finding keywords way more complex and time consuming than it had to be.

It has taken me five days to do what would have taken me an hour at most just using Google. I know I probably am missing some fine detail in being simplistic, but at least I move forward.

Thanks for reminding me action is so important to success in IM.

    Hello girls,

I got always sidetracked, I’m the number one procrastinator (I’m going to do a lens about that, as some kind of therapy). I agree with you girls to spend no extra money on other tools when you can do your thing at the big G.

Because I’m doing this for some years now (always searching and bying the next best thing…) I had the opportunity to buy a very good asset for keyword research. It is Market Samurai.

It’s one of the best tools I ever bought. Never the less I’m still struggling with the keyword research. Would your ebook Keyword Research Revealed be a good supplement in conjunction with MS.

    Regards,
    Philippe

  • 21 Jackie and Andrea // Jan 14, 2010 at 7:07 pm

No ~ market samurai should be more than enough. KRR is really about finding good keywords for adsense sites. Maybe find someone who can help you use MS more efficiently I hear it’s excellent.

    Hi Jackie and Andrea,

what do you think of seobook. PPG seems to really like this.

I really like the simplicity of google approach, but wasn’t sure if there is something better.

    thx.

tools are a matter of personal preference. I personally like to get my numbers right from Google, but whatever works best for you. :)

Thanks Jackie. Google it is for me at least for now.

  • 25 Laura Mendelsohn // Jan 21, 2010 at 10:31 am

    Hi Jackie & Andrea,

I am creating a test lens. The keyword that comes up is attracting people who want to talk about their subject of interest. Fictitious example: “bird watching forum”.

Can the Squidoo Guest Book feature be construed as a forum or is this too much of a stretch?

I have other great keywords so I do not have to use this one.

    Thanks.

    Laura

  • 26 Jackie and Andrea // Jan 21, 2010 at 10:46 am

I probably wouldn’t see it as a forum ~ but there are other templates for squidoo ~ I”m thinking about the monkey brain one ~ if you have something to get people talking you might use that template. You could also use the duel module which pits one side of an issue against another.

However, I’m not sure how any of this is going to help you sell products ~ are you looking at where your keywords land in the buying cycle?

If you are not familiar with the buying cycle this post might help. It’s an important element. :)

    Jackie,

Wow! That link really helps settle an intuition I had about this entire process.

I was all over the place with keywords, feeling it was more than low competition words, but rather search terms that indicate a user is in the buying cycle.

    Thank you for clarifying this.

    Hi Jackie and Andrea,

What happens when you find a good keyword but it doesn’t sound right? eg. making scents candles
    What should you do?

    Thanks a bunch

I’d say skip it. One of my keyword rules is that it makes sense in a sentence.

How do I get involved in the lessons? I was signed on earlier and typed in a commment but I don’t find it listed,

  • 31 Jackie and Andrea // Jul 10, 2010 at 5:46 pm

    Hi Arthur -

I see your first comment on this page:
    http://www.learnitstepbystep.com/finding-more-campaign-ideas-with-keyword-tools.html

That’s Lesson 3 and your comment is #42.

The Lessons’ link on the top Navigation bar may help you to keep track of where you’ve been (maybe print off the list and check off as you go?).

Each lesson has a comment area just like this where you’re to ask questions related to that specific lesson.

    Hope that makes sense!

    Andrea
