Find Squidoo Help on Squidoo

One of the cool things about squidoo is any squidoo related question you can usually find answered somewhere on the site itself. A lot of people don’t think to use squidoo as a resource ~ it’s pretty easy to get locked in to seeing it as a money maker and forget it is also a huge resource of information!!

In my experience people forget to look or ask for the information they want to know. If you want general information, I’d search google, but if you want to know something about squidoo ~ I’d search in squidoo.

Let’s talk for a minute about how you find what you want.  It seems tricky, but it really comes down to asking for what you want, exactly what you want :)

On every page of squidoo there is a search box. On the front page it is at the top and tells you to “search squidoo” on lenses it is usually in the sidebar and says “find”. Once you find the search box, how do you ask for what you want?

Let’s say you wanted to make a link in your lens clickable. You could ask squidoo for code to make links clickable. Let’s see what happens.

I just searched for

code to make links clickable.

The second lens that came up was this one:

http://www.squidoo.com/htmlheroes

This lens is a little confusing but just down a couple modules you are given a link to a basic html for squidoo lens.

If you click on the that link you will be taken to a lens that will give you very specific instructions on how to create a clickable link (which is also known as a hyperlink)

Ok I tried another one and it got a little tricky. I wanted to find out how to link to a specific module of my lens. No matter what I put in the squidoo search box I couldn’t get it to show me what I wanted. :(  If you can’t find what you’re looking for at Squidoo then take your search to Google. (sometimes people don’t tag their lenses for what you are asking for, but Google has a way of pulling that information out anyway) Here’s what happened.

Not only am I able to learn how to link to a specific module but there is  a TON of html information on this lens. If I am going to need to get back to this lens to look  at it again, I am definitely going to “favorite it”. That is kind of like bookmarking on Squidoo ~ now it will be in my favorites and I can find it later when I need it.

So let’s take an example that’s not about html.  What if you want to know how to stop your cat from shedding? Let’s see what happens.  I got 4 results and 2 of them seem to be what I might be looking for.

If you are looking for a solution to a problem, squidoo is a great place to look, because many of the lenses are made by affiliates trying to provide you with a solution.  That goes both ways ~ they are trying to sell you something, but what they are selling also may be exactly what you need to solve your problem.

Keep this in mind when you are creating your lenses. People are coming to your lenses in pursuit of information or a solution ~ just like we started out looking how to solve our problem of not knowing how to make a link. Make sure you provide them accurate, and interesting information that will guide them to a solution and you will be well ahead of the pack.

Great post. Sometimes the answers are so obvious, we don’t see what’s right in front of us! (I’m speaking for myself, of course) :)

I like squid U for help, also.

    All the best,

Great point Theresa, the folks at SquidU are VERY helpful. Sometimes when I can’t find an answer for someone at LearnItStepbyStep I go ask at SquidU ;)
