Something every affiliate  marketer needs to know is how to get the click through. The real problem for beginning affiliate marketers is they don’t even know what a click through is. The words and phrases we use in affiliate marketing can sound like Greek when you first start your affiliate marketing career. It’s no wonder beginners can get so frustrated, it’s quite frustrating walking around in a strange land, not speaking the language. Today we’re going to tackle the topic of click through. It’s a key component to affiliate marketing and something that every affiliate marketer needs to understand.

What is a click through?

A click through in general terms is when someone clicks a link on your page that leads to another page. In affiliate marketing, when people speak of their click throughs, they are talking about how many readers have clicked the link in their article or blog post and gone on to the sales page they were recommending.

Only by getting enough click throughs can you make your sale. It is a general guideline that it can take between 100 and 200 click throughs to a sales page before you will see a sale.

This can be kind of confusing, so let me give you an example. Let’s say I have written a squidoo lens. My squidoo lens is all about how to stop dog shedding. I talk about a few ways to stop dog shedding, and then I tell you about something I use that has totally helped stop my dog shedding. I give you a link to this, my favorite product and then you click on it to see what it is. That is a click through.

There are a number of ways you can create the right environment for people to click through to your sales page. The most important of which is to write good and helpful content. This means providing people with real information that will help them. The key to getting the click through is to give them great information, but leave a little something out. So let’s say you are giving them 3 tips on how to stop their dog from shedding. Give them three really helpful tips, but then let them know you saved the best tip of all for last and they have to click the link to get it. Creating curiosity and a belief that clicking your link is going to solve their problem is the best way to get the click through.

This is a bit of a learned skill, and can be honed with practice. For a new internet marketer it can be really tough to find the basic information that will help them put the pieces together and get started.
