Got my first post up, but the font size is so small. How do I change that?

  • 2 Jackie and Andrea // Apr 8, 2009 at 6:24 pm

The font size is coded into your theme. Could have someone look at the code and change it - or pick a different theme.

How come I am the only one doing screwy things?
The blog I just put up shows all the HTML as well as my writing. Do I just delete that out, start over, or what? And how did I manage to do this?

  • 4 Jackie and Andrea // Apr 9, 2009 at 6:28 pm

if you are putting code in you have to switch to the html setting which is a tab at the top right of the text editor. You can then copy/paste the coded content in and it will look right. :)

I know, I did that. Not the problem.
I published this blog, and a paragraph of htms type stuff is there between every paragraph of my writing when I view the blog.

  • 6 Jackie and Andrea // Apr 9, 2009 at 6:37 pm

did you do the post in word before you moved it to wordpress? IF so that is the problem Word puts crazy code in things that you can’t really see until it’s published.

Copy anything you’ve done in word into notepad and then copy it from notepad into your post on your blog.

    Yup, that’s what I did!

If one would like to use a picture that Z has offered, how to do it?

  • 9 Jackie and Andrea // Apr 10, 2009 at 12:32 pm

    like your affiliate program=Z?

You can either save the image to your hard drive and then use the browse feature in the text module to grab it and add it to your lens.

If you want it to be clickable then you have to either upload it to your server or to a place like photobucket. Then use the html code to add it to your lens.

You can always pull images off Zemanta too. Just click the image and it will automagically go to your post.

Sorry ~ I’m such a doof. I was thinking squidoo.

You can save it to your computer but then you’ll see a little image icon on your text editor in your post. That is what you click to grab it from your computer. Otherwise the instructions are the same.

Here’s a picture of where it is:

Should one add new/different tags with each post? In looking at my stats it says 24 tags, and to the right it says spam in big red letters. That can’t be good

  • 12 Jackie and Andrea // Apr 13, 2009 at 3:22 pm

What you are looking at is the “at a glance” feature in your dashboard. This gives you facts and figures about your site.

That column is telling you about the comments your site has received, the top one is how many, the second one is approved comments, the third is pending comments and the last ~ in red ~ is SPAM comments.

This is nothing to worry about. It just tells you how many comments your blog has received that have gone to the spam folder. :)

Some of the Zemanta pictures say “license” and others say “public domain”. Can we just use any that they have put on our blog page and never mind what it says?

  • 14 carolyn collins // May 20, 2009 at 6:45 pm

Never mind! I found it in lesson 52. We can use any they offer.

  • 15 Jackie and Andrea // May 20, 2009 at 6:46 pm

I believe if Zemanta has them available you are allowed to use them, since they also provide the link back to the photographer.

Having trouble making amazon link work on the blog. I even tried it in visual, nope. when clicked on it says page not found.
I’m thinking you did talk about Amazon, but I can’t find it.

Hi Carolyn - it might be this lesson you’re looking for?

Copied my first post from Wordpad and it looks ok except for about a 3 inch blank gap between 2 paragraphs.

I have used different posts copied from Wordpad and Notepad and still get a gap somewhere, but not always between the same 2 paragraphs, i.e. sometimes the gap is before the first paragraph, then everything else is properly spaced.

Have tried several themes with same results.

Just tried manually typing a test post and still get a big, blank gap between paragraphs.

Any ideas where to go next?

  • 19 Jackie and Andrea // Apr 27, 2010 at 2:39 pm

The blank space is most likely adsense ads. Do you have an adsense plugin going but not setup? did you choose an adsense theme? If you’ve got a plugin going turn it off.

  • 20 Larry Pitman // Apr 27, 2010 at 2:54 pm

    Same problem, more clues???

Let’s say the 3 inch blank space is between paragraphs 1 and 2 when I publish and look at the site.

I can go into edit, where there is no 3 inch blank space, and depress “Delete” at the end of paragraph 1. Then depress “Enter” and re-create the paragraph line space and “Update.”

Paragraphs 1 and 2 will be spaced correctly now, but the 3 inch blank gap will appear randomly between two other paragraphs. I can then “fix” those paragraphs in edit mode and the space will go somewhere else.

Think this has anything to do with Zemanta?

  • 21 Larry Pitman // Apr 27, 2010 at 2:56 pm

Just saw your answer above. Yes I have the adsense plugin selected but not in use. Let me look at that. Thank you.

  • 22 Larry Pitman // Apr 27, 2010 at 3:00 pm

You are absolutely right. I deactivated adsense and the blank disappeared.

    Thanks very much.

I would have figured that out in a couple of more days….???

  • 23 Jackie and Andrea // Apr 27, 2010 at 3:03 pm

Answer came from experience. I had no idea what that big blank was either the first time. :)

    Glad I could help.

Is there a way to add a video to a post so that the “play video” box is displayed (like in a Squidoo YouTube module) instead of just the anchor text/url?

  • 25 Jackie and Andrea // May 1, 2010 at 6:59 pm

Yeah ~ you have to go to youtube and get the “embed code” for the video you want to put in your post.

Come back to your blog and open the post: click the “html” tab at the top right hand side.

Once you are in html mode paste the embed code in where you want the video to show up.

You can click back to visual mode after that ~ you won’t see the video just a square, but if you hit the preview button you’ll see the video and it will show up when you publish.

    Jackie….that’s exactly what I wanted….thanks very much

  • 27 Gary Materra // May 20, 2010 at 11:27 pm

Can you please clarify how you arrange the articles/posts? Let’s say I create 6 new, unique articles/posts for each of my 6 keywords. My thinking is that I would first post each to EZA, then I would spin to create a new version of each to put on the blog, then I would create new spin versions to distribute to other directories or services. If I didn’t already have Squidoo lenses I would spin to create more for the lenses, without starting from scratch to create whole new articles. Is this more or less what you do? Thanks!

  • 28 Jackie and Andrea // May 21, 2010 at 5:27 am

    Hi Gary -

You’ve got it for the most part - grin.

But this statement from EZA might interest you:

“EzineArticles accepts original content that is 100% exclusive and original to YOUR NAME, but we will accept articles from you that you also have on your own website before or after you submit them to us.

As for your duplicate content question… As long as you don’t syndicate or distribute 100% of your content, your risks of any perceived duplicate content worries will be very minimized.”

In other words - you can post your own stuff to your blog first.

They even have a razoo plugin to help submit straight from your WP blog. Not something we cover here - but if you want to check it out - try this link:

    http://blog.ezinearticles.com/2010/04/wordpress-plugin-v2-0-goes-live.html

Squidoo lenses are not as big of a concern re spinning since you’re changing them with all the different non-test modules and headlines that you’re adding.

Sounds like you’re pretty clear to me :)

    Good job!
    Andrea

  • 29 Gary Materra // May 21, 2010 at 4:41 pm

That’s helpful, thanks! I suppose even if I use a pseudonym with EZA for a particular campaign, it will all be under one real name, so they would still be able to connect me with my blog content. What if I take the original article that’s on my blog and now on EZA too, and use that on UAW to create 2 more versions for that format? I guess it’s possible that the original version could end up out there intact, as duplicate content. Is this a valid concern? Thanks!

  • 30 Gary Materra // May 23, 2010 at 12:45 pm

If I have article links that take people back to the blog (or lens) where they see basically the same content just rewritten, is that ok?

  • 31 Gary Materra // May 30, 2010 at 6:59 pm

Should we be removing the default selection that allows comments to the blog? It seems like PPG was thinking of these blogs as static pages rather than interactive.

  • 32 Gary Materra // May 30, 2010 at 7:48 pm

Also, what about allowing trackbacks and pingbacks?

  • 33 Jackie and Andrea // May 30, 2010 at 9:31 pm

I always leave them on. You’ll have to check if/when you get comments that they aren’t spam, but new content without me doing any work is always welcome.

It’s up to you whether you want to allow pingbacks ~ whether you allow them or not you still have the final say on whether they get published or not.

    Jackie

  • 34 Gary Materra // May 31, 2010 at 12:51 pm

What exactly are pingbacks and trackbacks? Do they benefit me if they happen?

  • 35 Jackie and Andrea // May 31, 2010 at 1:01 pm

    This post will probably help:
