· 6 Comments · OWM month 2

Now that you have your plugins downloaded you need to get them on your site so you can actually use them. This process is exactly the same as when we uploaded themes, so no worries, you already know how to do it!

Akismet wants a wordpress.comAPI key. What is it and where do I find it?

Sorry, forget it. Spoke too soon!

As with Themes, downloaded and FTP’ed the unzipped Plugins, which appear in /wp-content/plugins and everything looks ok.

However, when I log-in to /wp-admin they do not show up as installed plugins, only Akismet and Hello Dolly.

    I’m missing something????

    Hi Larry -

Want to shoot me your login info? Easier to just look in person.

Andrea….I tried several times with FireFTP and had no luck. Either the plugin wouldn’t appear in the installed plugins list, or it would appear, would activate, then minutes later give an error message and self-distruct.

I just finished installing and activating in /wp-admin using Plugins/Add New/Install/Activate and everything looks good now. Who knows???

PPG recommends the Privacy Policy plugin if you’re using Adsense. I put that in as well. OK???

Very cool - yeah that adding plugins from inside WP is new since we first published this post.

So it sounds like you’re back on track?

The thing to know about plugins is this - they’re open source and everyone and their mother publishes them.

Doesn’t mean they’re all good/stable or play well with other plugins or even your chosen theme. You just have to kinda keep your eyes open and use what works for you.

Yeah a privacy policy is important when dealing with all services Google - good job!
