39. Month 2. Installing Wordpress

· 6 Comments · OWM month 2, basic tutorials

You now have a domain name, a hosting account and you are ready to get started on your niche site. The first step in building a niche site is installing wordpress.org on your domain. Wordpress.org is a free blogging platform that you install on your own domain and hosting services. It’s very similar to wordpress.com (a free blogging platform that does the hosting for you), but you have total control over your site this way.

I ended up with the URL wrong. WP has included the root url under which this is an add on. It gave me no choice in choosing the URL but this. So maybe my mistake is clear back in cPanel? What do I do? It does not go to word press site when in address bar.

    Hi Carolyn -

Can you shoot me the url by email? Maybe your cpanel login too. It’s easier to tell in person.

Word Press will not accept anything I try to upload. I have gone all the way back to host, and all is correct. Could be something wrong in the installation? How do I get back to the install page (I have a spell error I want to correct there also).
I have tried to upload themes with different FTP programs, and it takes nothing. right side of FTP is fine.
Maybe I should delete and go all the way back to Fantastico to start again?

Your best bet in this situation is to contact your hosting. They will be able to walk you through it, and help you solve the problem.

    Hi Carolyn -

You can do it from right in your dashboard area.

See settings section on the bottom of this post:

You want the ‘general settings’ tab.
