24. Getting Your Lenses Indexed

· 141 Comments · OWM Month 1

Now that your lenses are live the next step is to get Google to see them. When your lenses, or any site show up in the google search (even at the bottom) that is called being “indexed”. It just means Google is aware you have made this site and has grabbed it to show other people.

    Hi ladies, I just realized I misspelled a word in my url, shoot! I went over it what felt like a dozen times. Itwas to say boyfriend and I spelled it boyriend. It’s not getting indexed.

    It was one of the better lens too. Can I un-publish it and transfer the content to a new lens?

    I appreciate any suggestions

    Deliese

  • 2 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 5, 2009 at 9:40 pm

    Hey Deliese,

    Just so you know, the misspelling is not keeping your lens from being indexed. ;) There are many people who use misspelled keywords for their keywords ~ the search engine doesn’t know the difference. :)

    I would say you can grab your content and then delete the lens if you want. There’s no “unpublish” but you can delete.

    Create the new lens and then copy/paste the content over and then delete the one you no longer want.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi.

    When doing the posts on the 3 sites, should you do a post for each keyword, or can you do 1 post for all your keywords?

    Thanks.

  • 4 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 7, 2009 at 9:25 am

    Hey Ryan,
    you can do them all in one post.

    okay girls I finally finished my lens and figured out all the link stuff that was driving me crazy yesterday! I went to feedage and feedest and did the submit feed thingy you said to do to get indexed. Please look at my lens, let me know how I did and the next step I know is going to those other sites and leaving comments. Can I do that tomorrow? ha ha I’m tired! Gonna email you now the url to my lens. Thanks Dawn

  • 6 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 12, 2009 at 5:14 pm

    Congrats on getting through that piece of the puzzle. And sure you can do the rest tomorrow!

    Unfortunately looking at individual lenses, and campaigns is part of the personal coaching package, and we are unable to check out individual lenses.

    If you feel like you need help on your specific lenses/campaigns please think about upgrading to the coaching level.

    Do I need to register with feedest.com or can I just submit my RSS feed?

  • 8 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 15, 2009 at 12:15 pm

    Hi Sheila -

    Why not give it a try without registering and let us know what happens :)

    Andrea

  • 9 Sheila Newman // Feb 15, 2009 at 12:25 pm

    Well I tried and it seemed to work. I’m a bit stuck on the blogging thing at 3 stepsads etc. When I’m registering it asks for my website url. Do I put my affiliate product url or my squidoo lens url?

    How long do these posts need to be and do I make one post for each lens on each of the 3 blog sites?

    Lastly how do I link out using targeted anchor text. That sounds foreign to me. Can you give me an example. Am I supposed to be using a certain html code? I don’t know how to write blogs. Do you have instructions?

    Phew…..

  • 10 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 15, 2009 at 12:34 pm

    Great re. the RSS feed :)

    One post that includes all 3 links to your Squidoo lenses will be perfect here.

    Anchor text is the words (keyword phrase) that you make clickable. Match the clickable keyword to the lens that it goes with when you put in the link.

    Wordpress is very similar to Word in it’s functions:

    - type the words you’re going to want linked
    - highlight them
    - click the link button on the tool bar above your post
    - a box open where you can enter or paste your lens address
    - save that
    - repeat for the other phrases

    As far as writing these posts - they don’t need to be anything special - a few paragraphs on your topic will suffice. Think of it as a very short article.

  • 11 Sheila Newman // Feb 15, 2009 at 1:52 pm

    Thanks Jackie and Andrea.

    My lenses are all published. They all have the green tick on the Squidoo page. I’ve submitted all 3 unique content articles to the wordpress style blogs with links to each of my lenses. I’ve also joined 10 Squidoo fanclubs related to my topic.

    I think I’m starting to get the hang of this, but not without your help and of course PotPieGirl’s OWM.

  • 12 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 15, 2009 at 1:55 pm

    Well Sheila - it sounds like you’re making fabulous progress to me :)

    Remember that it’ll only get easier too - first time through is always the trickiest.

    Now take a break! - grin

  • 13 TY EVANS // Feb 15, 2009 at 2:18 pm

    Hi J & A,

    I did all my indexing for all my web lenses on all 3 web sites, but when I preview them, and click on each one, they all say “the url is not valid and cannot be loaded” What did I do wrong?

    Thanks

  • 14 Edward Stewart // Feb 15, 2009 at 11:28 pm

    I have a silly question. What am I doing wrong that does not allow me to get to Unique-Article-Database.com? I end up on Feedage and for some reason, cannot seem to find my way to the location I need in order to publish a post. The other two sites I have no problem but this one ?????
    Thanks
    Ed

  • 15 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 16, 2009 at 7:40 am

    Hi Ed -

    Hmm .. not sure about the ‘ending up on Feedage part’? That’s unusual.

    Here’s a link to the Unique Article Database hopefully that takes you there?

    On this site there’s a “register” link right under the login boxes.

    Once you’ve registered, you’ll need to check your email for the password they generate (copy and paste it - it’ll be weird) and then login on this page:

    Uniques Articles Login Page

    This will put you on the dashboard of the site - as I’m writing this, it’s an older version of wordpress, so later the button placement may change, but what you want to do is “Write a New Post”.

    See if you see that.

  • 16 Edward Stewart // Feb 16, 2009 at 1:35 pm

    Thanks Andrea,

    Everything worked just fine once I got to the correct site.

    However, I’m still puzzled because; when I type Unique-Article-Database.com into Google, it takes me to Feedage. There must be something I am missing. Perhaps it is a “Twilight Zone” thing!? Never mind; it’s not worth the time to figure it out.
    Thanks for the solution, all is well!
    Ed

  • 17 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 16, 2009 at 1:41 pm

    Hey Ed,
    Glad you got that straightened out. What’s happening is when you put it in GOOGLE it searches for sites that rank for the keyword, and apparently that’s feedage.

    You need to put the address in the address bar at the top of the page to go directly to the site. :)

  • 18 Edward Stewart // Feb 16, 2009 at 3:43 pm

    No worries, every guru had to start somewhere right?? :)

  • 20 Judith Turner // Feb 23, 2009 at 1:02 am

    when checking to see if my lenses are indexed should they come up in the number one spot on google since I am typing the url in the search box? I haven’t been able to find any of my lenses yet and have searched several pages of google.

  • 21 Judith Turner // Feb 23, 2009 at 1:12 am

    Also, would it be beneficial to put a link to any clickbank affiliate programs in my posts or do we just stick to promoting our lenses?

  • 22 Judith Turner // Feb 23, 2009 at 1:19 am

    Oops sorry ignore comment #20 I see it is answered on the next page.

  • 23 Jay Hurwitz // Mar 5, 2009 at 9:53 am

    Hi Ladies

    I am in Writers blocked unblocked working on my post.

    When my post is finished, you say
    Just go up to the little button that looks like a piece of chain and click it.

    I dont see a little button that looks like a piece of chain.

    Can you give me another hint please.

  • 24 Jackie and Andrea // Mar 5, 2009 at 10:58 am

    Hi Jay :)

    You’re talking about two different things here - if you’re ready to publish you should see a ‘publish’ button on the right of your screen (maybe scroll down if the Zemanta block has popped up to the top - happens sometimes)

    I’ve done a screen shot lesson for linking here:
    http://screencast.com/t/Jqp8QUwVDl

    See if that makes things clearer?

    Andrea

  • 25 Jay Hurwitz // Mar 5, 2009 at 12:48 pm

    Got it. Thanks.

    I have now published my first post.

    Silly little things like this - if left answered- are the kind of things that would blow me off a program and would result in another failed affiliate marketing initiative for me.

    You give me confidence that I will succeed with this program.

  • 26 Jay Hurwitz // Mar 6, 2009 at 10:15 am

    Hi ladies

    Me again.

    I have just received 2 pingbacks from a post I published a few hours ago.

    Should I do something about/with them?

  • 27 Jackie and Andrea // Mar 6, 2009 at 10:30 am

    No you don’t need to do anything with them. You don’t have to publish them. This just shows you the links you are putting up are being found. :)

    It’s a good thing.

  • 28 Joyce Thorburn // Mar 6, 2009 at 3:34 pm

    hello there ladies,
    I’m totally lost. When I click on my rss button either in Fire fox or an my lens I get a bookmark, and no http://www.squidoo.com/xml/syndicate_lens/ etc

    I have a friend that’s doing OWM and also helps me.
    Yesterday she declared me :”A disaster” .{She was kidding…maybe?)
    I did get to Feedage and the other one and submitted those urls.
    A few minutes after I went and searched in Feedest for one of those urls or lense or whatever. It came up without any result. Does that take time?? I hope so.
    I might not comment all the time but I DO appreciate what you gals are doing.

    Joyce

  • 29 Joyce Thorburn // Mar 6, 2009 at 3:37 pm

    oops…hello again.

    I forgot something. In feedest after I typed in the urls there was a mention of tagging them or something like that. I did not know where I was supposed to do that. I just submitted them. Can I remedy that still or is it too late.? I get frustrated and then just go on and regret it later.

    Joyce

  • 30 Jackie and Andrea // Mar 6, 2009 at 4:02 pm

    Hi Joyce,
    Don’t worry about any of that. You just want to submit. I promise they are there. :)

    Submitting your RSS feeds is just another great way to get links back to your lenses, as well as let google know your lenses are there.

    Make sure you are on the actual published lens ~ not in the workshop and you will be able to see the RSS feed icon in the sidebar or in the address bar (if you are using firefox).

    You are not a disaster ~ just a beginner, and you’re getting it!! Don’t give up.

    Jackie

  • 31 Jackie and Andrea // Mar 6, 2009 at 4:05 pm

    If you know the RSS feed url for your lens you don’t need to go looking for it. For squidoo it will always be:

    http://www.squidoo.com/xml/syndicate_lens/your lens url here whatever it is

    Just take that and put it in the RSS feed submission sites, you’ll be fine.

  • 32 carolyn collins // Mar 12, 2009 at 3:03 pm

    Sometimes the links are blue and underlined, and others are maroon color. Does it matter?

    when I clicked publish on Unique-Article-Database, it went to a new screen where one could write another post, and on the right it said unpublished.
    Does this mean it takes a bit of time to get published, or did I screw up?

  • 33 Jackie and Andrea // Mar 12, 2009 at 7:15 pm

    Hi Carolyn -

    Color of hyper links doesn’t matter. Only thing that matter is that they go where you want them to. Sometimes that has to do with the color theme of the site and sometimes it’s an indication that your browser has already ‘visited’ a certain link.

    It doesn’t take any time to publish and be ‘live’ on that site - if you still see a publish button, you just need to push it again. That’s a Wordpress interface, so good to get used to it :)

    Andrea

  • 34 carolyn collins // Mar 16, 2009 at 12:16 pm

    OK, it has been a week and 2 of my lenses are not indexed. What now? How far back do I need to go?

  • 35 Jackie and Andrea // Mar 16, 2009 at 12:22 pm

    Hi Carolyn -

    They’ll hop around a little - I would just move forward. Everything you do from here on out will involve linking which will help them get found on Google.

  • 36 Andrea Kalaydjian // Apr 13, 2009 at 11:18 pm

    Hi Jackie and Andrea

    I am finally doing this step.
    When I write the ads for 3stepads, etc, I am not sure I understand. In conversations with Nick Jennifer added a lien for each lens, like

    How To Cure Your Slice (link to /howtocureyourslice)
    How To Cure A Slice That Won’t Go Away (link to /how-to-cure-a-slice), rtc

    Do I need to add this for each lens at the end of the short blog? Or the links do they need to get incorporated in the text? (somehow more difficult to do)

    Thanks
    Andrea

  • 37 Jackie and Andrea // Apr 14, 2009 at 5:21 am

    Hi Andrea -

    We’ve done it both ways - if you can tell a little story and then have the keyword links as a sort of reference list, that can work.

    And yeah if you can weave them into the couple of paragraphs that make up your ad, that works great too.

    Main idea here is to get links and not spam the site with ONLY links.

    Andrea

  • 38 carolyn collins // Apr 20, 2009 at 1:29 pm

    I have been trying all morning to get logged into Writers Block, and Unique Article. Both pass words they sent do not work. Asked for new, and the change password link they then sent doesn’t work either. Just an off day for the sights? Or do you know a remedy?

  • 39 Jackie and Andrea // Apr 20, 2009 at 2:00 pm

    Carolyn,
    Those sites are both run by the same person, so there may be a problem with something on their end.

    give it some time and try again later.

    Jackie

  • 40 Shalisha Alston // May 7, 2009 at 9:23 pm

    Hi. You said:

    “One post that includes all 3 links to your Squidoo lenses will be perfect here”

    What I’ve been doing is going to each blog (3 step, unique, and writers block) and doing one post per keyword. So for my 5 keywords, I end up posting 15 blog posts. You mean all I have to do is post on one of those blog posts and use all keywords in one post and that’s it? I’m confused.

  • 41 Jackie and Andrea // May 7, 2009 at 9:26 pm

    Oh Good Heavens.

    That’s why it pays to read. :)

    Yeah you only have to do 3 posts total. Include all your links in one post. Then change up the first paragraph and a bit of the content for the other two site. :)

    Jackie

  • 42 Shalisha Alston // May 7, 2009 at 9:32 pm

    OMG, no wwonder I was exhausted and feeling overwhelmed. Okay. So just to recap:

    I will make 3 posts but each post will have my 5 keywords in them linking to each different squidoo lens. Then do the same for the other 2 but just change the paragraph a little in one so that it becomes unique content? What lesson was this one in? I totally missed it. That’s why I LOVE reading this question and answer session after the group lessons.

  • 43 Jackie and Andrea // May 7, 2009 at 10:06 pm

    Yes that’s it exactly. It was in this lesson. lol

    Daily Action: Follow the “indexing plan” as outlined on pgs 32-24 of the main guide for each of your lenses. It will mean submitting your RSS feed, and Mmaking 3 posts with your keywords included.

    and page 34 of OWM main guide.

    This should be much easier ~ if you got her recent update to OWM she spells this out very clearly and gives you some examples. :)

    Jackie

  • 44 Shalisha Alston // May 7, 2009 at 10:09 pm

    You know what? After reading your post, I went back to that page in OWM and re-read it, and it made more sense to me. I only read the book through once but now I’m reading it through more carefully in conjunction with this one on one coaching and it’s making a huge difference. All the little pieces of the puzzle are coming together. I just know I’m going to be successful.

  • 45 Hector Cancio // May 15, 2009 at 12:29 pm

    OK, I am Trying get my RSS feeds indexed.
    I saw there was another unfortunate soul this happened to, but didn’t see an answer back.

    I submitted 2 articles to Feedage Ok, then the next 2 would not be accepted.
    It refers me to their help desk, called the phone #, ” leave a message”….I might as well go stick my head in the freezer.
    Tried an e-mail,we’ll see.

    Frustrated, I can see the finish line, but can’t get there.

  • 46 Jackie and Andrea // May 15, 2009 at 12:34 pm

    Hector.

    You are submitting your rss feed url to feedage.com, not articles. This should look like this:

    http://www.squidoo.com/xml/syndicate_lens/your-lens-name-here.

    Make sure you are submitting the right url, if you are just submitting your lens url it’s not going to work.

    Jackie

  • 48 Jackie and Andrea // May 15, 2009 at 2:53 pm

    I’ve heard it’s not working today. no biggie, just move on to the next site and come back to it later.

    OK, sounds good,except I can’t get to3step, unique, or writers today.

    I may be cursed today.

    I guess I’ll read on and see what happens later.

  • 50 Jackie and Andrea // May 15, 2009 at 3:51 pm

    Hector~

    Did you sign up to these sites? Create a username and a password was sent to you?

    I logged into unique today ~ so it seems to be working for me.

    I am trying to do my VERY FIRST blog on 3StepAds, I tried to copy/paste and it comes out in a very narrow column, am I not able to copy/paste here?

  • 52 Jackie and Andrea // May 24, 2009 at 1:23 pm

    Where are you pasting from? You need to paste into notepad first then into the post. Also it sounds like you may be hitting enter (return) on your posts when you type? That’ll mess up the word wrap when you move it around.

    let me know if that helps solve this?

    Andrea

  • 53 Carole Rowland // May 24, 2009 at 3:29 pm

    I am going by PPG OWM and she said to go to Squidoo and do a search with my KW and join the fan club of 10-15 lensmasters. I went in and put my first KW search in and found my lens about the 5th one down on page 1, IS this good, or is it just a fluke? I know it is only Squidoo, but hopefully this is a good sign.

    Thanks again

  • 54 Linda Servis // May 24, 2009 at 5:50 pm

    I have read all the questions, and I am still unable to figure out how to post. I am registered at all three blog sites, but don’t have the foggiest. I know I am supposed to contain all the key words-but how and in what format.

    OWM guide is not helpful here.

    Oy vey.

  • 55 Jackie and Andrea // May 24, 2009 at 5:59 pm

    1. Log in to the site using your username and password: http://screencast.com/t/xs8Qs8ctX

    2. click submit article: http://screencast.com/t/o7Nlh03kSwb

    3. type in your title and your post, then hit publish. http://screencast.com/t/6KwkdcD5

    Basically the same system on all three sites. :)

    Jackie

  • 56 Linda Servis // May 25, 2009 at 2:51 pm

    Okay, I got something up. I am still unclear about “linking out using targeted anchor text to each of your lenses” which PPG says do do on page 34. I don’t even know what this is. Is it automatic? I put in tags and used the keywords every which way including in the title. Is this it?

    Also, it seems the content and appearance of the blog is not particularly important, just that the link is there????

  • 57 Jackie and Andrea // May 25, 2009 at 3:12 pm

    Ok, Linda ~ the linking out is the WHOLE point of this exercise. :) It’s really important, it’s the only reason you are doing it.

    You have to create a link back to your lens ~ within the text of your post. You want your keywords to be the words people click on in the link.

    Here’s an example ~

    http://www.unique-article-database.com/garden-potting-bench-should-you-have-one/

    You will see the words in red are the links back to pages of this site ~ you will link them to each of your lenses instead.

    You will highlight the words, then click the icon at the top or the page that looks like a piece of chain link ~ it will ask you for the site you want to link to ~ that’s your lens URL. http://www.squidoo.com/yourlensname

    Hope this makes a little more sense now.

    Jackie

  • 58 Linda Servis // May 25, 2009 at 3:49 pm

    Thanks for that. I wondered what that red stuff was.

    Another problem, I got the blogs in Unique and 3Steps fine. But in Writers Block, I posted twice and lost it twice. Once I hit save and it disappeared, and then I hit publish the next try, and it disappeared.

  • 59 Jackie and Andrea // May 25, 2009 at 3:59 pm

    must be having an issue ~ I’d say try again later.

    Jackie

  • 60 Linda Servis // May 25, 2009 at 4:04 pm

    Sorry to be so pesky, but I know this is important. I am trying to link out, I understand your instructions. The only time I see the red letters is in the preview mode, and then it links to something I don’t want. When I am in edit mode, I don’t see anything in red. Can’t find the chain link either, but I’ll try on that one again since I have your new post.

    Thanks for your patience.

  • 61 Jackie and Andrea // May 25, 2009 at 4:08 pm

    You will see the red underline once it is posted. You will only see the chain once you’ve highlighted your text (keywords)

    Take a look this should help:

    http://screencast.com/t/d4C1cydIDfo

    Jackie

  • 62 Linda Servis // May 25, 2009 at 4:46 pm

    Never mind. I finally got the links out in 3step. Except one link won’t work. It stays in blue instead of changing to red. I have checked the squidoo address a million times, and it is correct (when I enter it into the url, it works fine).

    Onward to unique articles.

  • 63 Jackie and Andrea // May 25, 2009 at 5:02 pm

    link color is different depending on the site ~ it seems to be the 3step links are blue. :)

    The examples you said were in there would be very helpful.

    thanks

  • 68 Jackie and Andrea // May 27, 2009 at 2:22 pm

    the companion guide came to me on April 23 or 24th. I believe she sent it to everyone who had purchased OWM before then, and it is included as part of the package (I’m pretty sure) now.

    Jackie

  • 69 Linda Servis // May 27, 2009 at 3:50 pm

    Just found the companion guide again. I am not yet indexed. I researched some more long tailed kw’s. If I go back and add those as tags on the lenses and on the blogs, will that help. Is that one of the things she talks about in link-link-link?

  • 70 Jackie and Andrea // May 27, 2009 at 4:25 pm

    Hey Everyone!

    tags are not going to help you get indexed ~ more links will.

    You need links back to your lenses from other sites (like hubpages, the free blogs, rss feed directories, bookmarking sites ~ optimally, links that use the keywords for your lens as the anchor text.

    This is why she suggests you go back and do the three free ad blogs again if you have not gotten indexed.

    I know she says it can be done quickly ~ but there are times when it just takes TIME to get a site indexed ~ and I’m not talking hours or days I’m talking weeks ~ it happens.

    Here’s what happens sometimes ~ someone teaches people how to do something ~ get a lens indexed quickly, get to page one quickly, get this done, get that done ~ whatever.

    A bunch of people start doing it. Google is not stupid, they can see all this stuff, so they change things up a little bit ~ the process still works, but sometimes it starts to take a little more work or a little more time.

    Nothing ~ no process ~ ever stays the same on google forever.

    If you spend a a bunch of time worrying about indexing you are going to be wasting time that could be much more well spent building new campaigns

    This is what she means when she talks about obsessing ~ don’t obsess about ANY element of this process ~ just keep moving forward. I have YET to see a squidoo lens that had some links to it not get indexed.

    There is a link to the link link link post is there not? I’d suggest you take a look at it and see what it says ~ I’m not sure at the moment, and it would be better for you to know how to get there so you can refer back later, than for me to just give you the answer here.

    Links TO the lenses using your keywords and variations of yourkeywords as the links - on sites that already have authority (they’re established and Google likes them) is what will help the most.

    I wondred if you could use a tips list to do these three blogs?? I have a variety of tips throughout my lenses (all the same niche) but I have not got a clue how I can word a blog and have all the keywords (lens titles) in it other than by this method (or I could do as another member has and write 15 blogs!!!!!!!! Have you checked out the companion guide PPG sent out? She does a nice job explaining how to do these posts and even gives a great example. You can do them any way you want.

    The only rule is that you have links pointing back to your lenses and the links have your keywords in the anchor text. other than that ~ it’s totally up to you how you make it happen. :)

    You can just write a couple paragraphs and then make a list below that includes the keyword anchor text links to your lenses.

    Daisie

  • 90 Jackie and Andrea // May 29, 2009 at 9:18 am

    Hi Daisie -

    You could put keywords in your tags.

    You could also tag all of your posts like this with a ‘code’ tag then it would be easier to find them all later.

    Andrea

  • 91 Daisie // May 29, 2009 at 9:26 am

    Sorry not sure what you mean by a ‘code’ tag?

    Can you also tell me can you go back to these blogs and alter them or should I just remember in future?

    Daisie

  • 92 Jackie and Andrea // May 29, 2009 at 9:34 am

    Something that is unique to you - like a password for the search to find them all with. I’ve never tried this - but pretty sure it would work.

    Yes you can go in and edit them. Try adding Daisie as a tag then publish and then search for that - see if it pulls it up?

  • 97 Jackie and Andrea // Jun 5, 2009 at 2:53 pm

    Hi MaryBeth and everyone else,

    I just want to make one point here ~ it’s not submitting to those particular 3 sites that gets you indexed.

    You can get your site indexed without ANY of those three sites. They are just recommendations PPG has made, because they are quick and easy to do.

    Getting indexed is just a matter of giving Google time to find your lens. It goes quicker when there are other sites pointing TO your lens ~ but it doesn’t HAVE to be these 3 to get indexed.

    Just wanted to make sure that was clear.

    Here’s a blog post I recently did about getting indexed: http://internetmarketingformommies.com/the-secret-weapon-i-use-to-get-my-sites-indexed/

    Hi Ladies,

    I have submitted all of my lenses to the RSS aggregators and posted on the 3 step ads site but my post in the Unique-Article-Database.com site although everything looks good, all of my (5) links to my lenses result in:
    Error 404 - Not Found
    Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here.

    Everything looks correct and I have some WP blogs of my own so I don’t know why this is happening.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Don

  • 99 Jackie and Andrea // Jun 10, 2009 at 2:37 pm

    Not sure I understand which links you are referring to that are coming up 404.

    Are they links you created within your post at that site? If so there must be a problem with the link, make sure you’ve copy/pasted the actual lens url as the site to link to.

    So it would be http://www.squidoo.com/yourlensname you put in the box that pops up to create the link.

    Let me know if that isn’t the problem, will see what I can do.

  • 100 Russell Hart // Jun 11, 2009 at 2:29 am

    I’ve satisfactorily done my RSS feeds with Feedage & Feedest. I’ve registered with Step3, Unique-Article & Writers-Block, but am a little confused. Was under the impression from this Lesson that the Posts were to be brief and simple. But reading the site for 3Step I see they recommend at least 200 words, preferably 500 to 700. And they stress the importance of a h/line and good copy content. So in effect I should be writing what you’d describe as a fully-fledged Article? Am I correct in this?
    Next, I inadvertently put in 1 of my Squiddo URLs when registering with 3Step. I think this should been my overall campaign URL (the one that takes me to my products website). Is this correct? If so, is there a way to change this? Or should I perhaps register again, using a different user name and URL?
    Finally, I just received my first comment on one of my lenses. It was a good one, too!
    Regards
    RUSSELL

  • 101 Jackie and Andrea // Jun 11, 2009 at 3:00 am

    Good Job Russell! Sounds like you’re making progress :)

    You can write brief posts in this case because all we’re shooting for are the keyword backlinks. You want to make a little effort to not be spamming the community (ie. something that adds value is a good thing) - but it can be whatever length achieves that.

    You want to point these keyword links at the lenses that they go with. The purpose of linking from outside Squidoo is to give the lenses a vote (in Googles eyes) for being relevant for those keywords.

    You can log back in with your user account to these sites and edit your posts - no problem.

    Congrats on the comment! Fun stuff!

    As I wrote them last night, I’ve decided to use full, informative posts, each with the keywords for all my 3 lenses. However, I’m now stuck on linking back to the lenses. The Lesson says to highlight and to click the chain button. But the sites on 3Step,etc, don’t have this button. So, please, what do I do? And they give the option of visual or html; which should I use? I tried putting html on my keywords when using ‘visual’, but this didn’t work. Help!

    Frustrating is the word! I completed my 3 Posts yesterday and my links appeared to work, altho I didn’t check them all. I went to check them all today. With 3Step I couldn’t find a way to get to my post and have sent them a query as to how.
    With Unique-Articles I have 3 links. One worked fine, the other 2 brought up the page with the Squidoo red square & “HI, HEY YOU. This page was made by you …”. Do you have a solution to this? And Writers-Block’s home page is hopeless.
    Just 2 headings of “Recent Articles” but no article listing. So no way to access my post to be sure it’s actually there and to check the links, if it is. Any clues to this one?
    Look forward to hearing from you.

    Just a thought re my previous Comment. My keywords which are in my Squidoo Lens’ URLs have the words with no spaces or caps. In my links that don’t work they have a space between the words and 1 has a capital. Could this be the cause? (Altho the link that does work is 2 words with a space between! ). If this is the case, how to I get into ‘Edit” for each of the 3 Posts? Regards …
    RUSSELL

  • 106 Jackie and Andrea // Jun 13, 2009 at 6:48 am

    Hi Russell -

    Yeah spaces make your urls not go where you intend them. Always least frustrating to copy and paste them.

    Have just gone to 3stepads and here’s how you can get back to your ads:

    1. login

    2. then click the profile link on the dashboard - here’s a picture:
    http://screencast.com/t/5Igde8pV

    3. Click thru your author link (save this for future reference)

    4. click on one of the titles of your posts to view it completely

    5. At the bottom, you should see an edit option on the last line beyond your post.

    6. this brings you back to the place where you published from.

    7. make edits

    8. click ‘update post’ to save it/republish it.

    Let us know when you get through that and I can go see about the next site you need if it’s different.

    Looks like writer’s block is back online but still not really working - skip that site.

    You can try free-adz.com

    You should also add them to your yahoo and google homepages as in the email we sent out recently. If you don’t have it - you can scroll up to the top of this page, login (if you’re not already), click the ‘members page’ link under your name and it should be on that page under “newsletters” on the left.

    I’ve fixed 3Step by taking the spaces out of the keywords (looks a bit odd with the words running on!). I tested them and all links now work. At your No:5 I couldn’t find the edit option, but found it on the members backoffice.
    I tried to fix UniqueArticles, took the spaces out, but couldn’t re-publish. So I’m stuck on this one unless you can show me a way out. In the meantime I’ll do free-adz.

    Hmm Russell -

    Not sure we’re on the same page with the links yet.

    Your keywoeds that you’re linking WITH should be writtern to read (with spaces) - it’s the url that you link with that need to be exactly the same as your lens urls.

    I’ll try and remember to look at Unique Articles tomorrow.

    These are far from the only sites in the world that’ll do the job, so we’ll just get done what we can and find a replacement when it’s not working, k?

    Good morning Andrea I don’t quite understand what you mean by this… “it’s the url that you link with”. To try to clarify where I’m at.
    Presumably you want me to put the spaces back in the k’words in my Post. What I’ve been doing is to highlight these and then link them DIRECTLY to my lens urls (which have no spaces) and this is what doesn’t work. So what’s the ‘url that I link with’? To give you a fictitous example …
    Lens url …
    http://www.squidoo.com/gardeningtools
    K’words in Post - gardening tools (I highlight these 2 words and using the chain try to link them to the lensURL). What am I doing wrong?
    Look forward to hearing from you tomorrow. Have a good sleep! (It’s 5.00pm Sunday down here at the moment).

    Jackie & Andrea,

    Hi,

    Finally, I got all my lenses published, RSS Feeds, blog posts. I think I am becoming quite a tortoise at this. I was just about to join some fan clubs…

    But G is fast…All my 5 lenses were indexed within 5 hrs and 4 of them landed on the first page without the quotes but one landed on the 3rd page.

    Thanks to you I’ve already learned the process. This is the first time I got something on line other than sending emails.

    So, now I have to learn about marketing and to keep those lenses on the first page. I read that they bum around a lot on the net. What do I have to do to maintain their rankings?

    Thanks

    Greg

  • 120 Jackie and Andrea // Aug 7, 2009 at 9:09 am

    It depends on how competitive your terms are ~ but the best thing to do is keep building links to it using your main keyword or a variation of it as your anchor text.

    The more links you have pointing to a site the better it will do in the search ranking.

    Yes, it probably will bump around in the beginning, but it may come back up and do fine ~ just have to wait and see how it does. If it falls, just keep adding links.

    Hey glad the lessons are helping :)

    You can treat these indexing blog posts just like mini articles.

    Intro paragraph, links, closing sentence or two.

    Something like that.

    Don’t go too crazy, but also don’t just spam your links, ‘ya know?

    Hope this helps,

    Andrea,

    Are the links to your lens, your product, or your keyword?

    Can you tell me what format the post should take?

    For example…what goes in the title box, the text box, the tag box, etc…

    Could you possibly do a demo video?

    Also, what is spamming your links?

    Thanks,

    Kerry

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Hi Kerry -
    Spamming your links means just plastering your links about without adding any value.
    The same rules for titles and tags and content apply for these as they would for your lenses - only a shorter version. Just a summary paragraph - linked to your lens with the same keyword phrase.
    Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving.
    I have really good news. I finally published my test lens today and did the indexing for it.
    Just a quick question for now, once my lense is indexed I submit an article to EZA. Do I type my article in Notepad?
    thanks
  • 128 Jackie and Andrea // Dec 3, 2009 at 8:30 am
    You can write it in word and then copy/paste it into notepad. Then copy it from there before you put it into EZA. Or you can just type it into notepad ~ I find it hard to keep track of what I’ve said in notepad, but you want, at the very least, to put it in notepad before you publish to EZA to get rid of the random code word adds.
    Jackie
  • 129 Jackie and Andrea // Dec 3, 2009 at 8:31 am
    oh ~ you can just type right into the text editor at eza too. That’s what I usually do and then copy/paste it into a text doc from there before I hit the submit button.
Does it matter what you give them? I only do this once, right, and all future campaigns I use the same login to go create my posts? Or will I be creating a new username and new login for each campaign? Thanks!
  • 131 Gary Materra // Mar 8, 2010 at 12:58 am
    PPG has suggested setting up a Google Alert to send you an email when your work has been indexed. How is this done? Thanks!
  • 132 Jackie and Andrea // Mar 8, 2010 at 7:15 am
    Hi Gary -
    Re. the advertising blogs - you actually will want to register with a new username, url and email for each niche.
    If you pick a username that’s related to your keywords, your name will become an additional anchor text link when you post.
    You can point it at anything that would benefit from that phrase. I would pick one of the lenses. Or your blogger blog (which you may not have in place yet?).
    Google Alerts are set up here:
    Hi Jackie and Andrea,
    I have written 8 lenses on the same topic. They were finished about 10 days ago. I have a different keyword for each lens, every module contains it, and each lens url is the keyword. I bought domains for each keyword and forwarded my affil. product to each domain (or is it the other way round? anyway it all works) I did the feedage, feedest thing, did the blogs, wrote an ezine article for each lens linking out to each lens etc… basically followed the steps in OWM. When I discovered my lenses weren’t indexed I repeated feedage, feedest and 3-stepads etc. Now I have finally had one of my 8 lenses indexed, but only the one. It says not to promote your lenses anywhere until indexed, so I’m stuck. do i just promote the one lens? Do i go on and pretend they’re indexed? Or do I abandon the whole thing and start a new campaign on a new topic with a new product?
    VERY frustrated… no wonder people quit…
    any advice would be gratefully accepted.
    Congrats on work well done.
    It actually says don’t promote your lenses anywhere on SQUIDOO before they are indexed.The rest of the internet is fair game.
    I would add your rss feed to different rss directories, you might also add a link to some squidoo directories.
    This post gives you more RSS directories: http://internetmarketingformommies.com/how-to-create-backlinks-so-google-will-find-your-lens/
    This post will give you some ideas for squidoo directories ~ scroll down toward the bottom.
    I’d also suggest you find some blogs related to your niche and read their post and then leave a good comment. If you add your name and url in the appropriate fields that will give you another link to your site for google to find. If you can find some popular blogs in your niche this will help quite a bit.
    Hope that helps. Hang in there ~ this is pretty normal. :)
    I submitted my lens to Feedage without any trouble. When I tried to submit them to Feedest.com, I am automaticall directed to this URL: http://adfreeblog.com/. Not sure where to go from here. Any help is appreciated. Is it OK to submit to other RSS feeds? Thanks in advance.
    Jackie & Andrea,
    I have another question. When making a blog post, do I include an anchor text for each of my lens on this 1 post? Or make multiple posts for each lens?
    Hope you understand my question.
    Leo,
    Sometimes sites change… if something doesn’t work anymore, simply move on to the next thing.
    Yes, of course it’s fine to submit to other RSS feed sites. :)
    I would do one or two links per post… some sites have regulations about how many you can have. I’d also make sure they’re relevant to the topic of your post… a list of your links isn’t going to do you any good.
