I found a “Phone Image” for my Bio Image and made a Bio for this campaign and then found a “Magic Jack Image” for the lenes…question? Can I use the same Bio and Bio Image…and the same MJ Image in all of the campaign lenes?

  • 2 Jackie and Andrea // Nov 30, 2008 at 7:13 pm

Whatever image you use in your profile will be the default image in all of your lenses. You can use the same image in all your lenses if you choose the MG image instead of your default “phone” image.

Just FYI. Everyone can see your comments you may want to make them more general so you don’t give away your niches. ;)

Thanks Jackie! So it won’t look to clonist with them all having the same Bio Image and lens image, for my campaign?

  • 4 Jackie and Andrea // Nov 30, 2008 at 8:10 pm

Nope, it’s what I do for all of mine.

If you use the default image it makes it much quicker and easier as it will automatically show up in the bio area for each lens. :)

  • 5 Jackie and Andrea // Nov 30, 2008 at 8:11 pm

    Actually,
I would change the image in each of your “intro modules” since that’s what will show up in the featured lens module, and that would be better if it is a different image for each lens.

Makes it look like different content.

  • 6 Steve Inman // Nov 30, 2008 at 8:16 pm

Yes, I changed my image in my “Profile”, but it changed my photo in my first lens also. I corrected this by going back to the first lens and reload the old photo in it from the lens bio….So its now all spiffy..:)

  • 7 Steve Inman // Dec 2, 2008 at 12:45 am

OH, so I can use the same image in all 6 Bios but a different image in each intro, right? I can go back and change 5 of them. I used an image of the unit itself.

I have created an account with squidoo but I can’t find the payment setttings. Where are they?

  • 9 Jackie and Andrea // Jan 15, 2009 at 8:41 am

    Hi Graham -

When you login to Squidoo - go to “My Dashboard” (link on top right corner) and then to the “My Profile” tab.

Scroll down towards the bottom - you should see the Payment Settings.

One thing I just noticed - I have an account without any lenses that doesn’t show this part of the profile settings yet (but it’s a very old one and may have different issues - grin). So might want to make sure you have something published first.

  • 10 Jackie and Andrea // Jan 15, 2009 at 8:42 am

    Hi Castles,
You have to start your first lens and then the payment area will open up.

Once you have started your first lens when you click on “edit your bio” next to the image in the dashboard area, you will see it near the bottom of the page.

  • 11 TY EVANS // Feb 11, 2009 at 7:10 am

I made all the pictures the same in my Bio area for all 6 lenses, and added a different picture for all 6 lenses in my intro section. Is this the best way to set up the lens?

You can also have an html image or link to a product in this area too. Use it. The space is available. Can you explain this in a little more detail, I don’t quite understand. Should I put the products web address there.

Go through the external links and add the ones you want, it’s a nice way to drive some traffic or get followers at twitter. Can you explain the external links in detail, I am not getting it. Also do you want me to turn on twitter for each lens?

    Thanks

  • 12 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 11, 2009 at 7:24 am

    Hi Ty -

    Your pictures sound perfect.

If your product provider has banners or link codes, you can add the html to your bio area. Put this: between your last sentence in your bio and the code so it leaves some white space.

Twitter is optional and you can either use your main twitter account if you don’t mind people seeing your niche - or you can create a new twitter account just for that niche topic.

External links in the profile tab of your dashboard - meaning links out to appropriate sites that you have on the topic. Probably an opportunity for later (and can be never).

I am curious can I use a pen name for my name in my bio? I created a pen name for my username thinking that they wouldn’t show my real name but since they do I would like to use my pen name for both.

  • 14 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 21, 2009 at 7:13 pm

    Hi Judith.
Yes you can. Your username is what shows up on your lenses though ~ but yeah, just click the “edit bio” link next to your picture in your dashboard and change your name there.

  • 15 carolyn collins // Feb 25, 2009 at 6:37 pm

Tried to find clip art on Creative Commons link. It shows no pictures. How does one know what to choose?

  • 16 Jackie and Andrea // Feb 26, 2009 at 11:15 am

    Hi Carolyn -

Try the flikr tab - that’s always a good source of images.

Also, I recently found this site:
    More Free Images

    Might find something there :)

2nd paragraph under dashboard diagram above, it says, “go down to the default photo of your profile, and click change. When you do that you will be given a browse button.”

Q1 Where is the browse button located - I can’t find it.

Q2 What is the default photo area of my profile, is it the box that says “no image yet”?

    Thank you

  • 18 Jackie and Andrea // Mar 1, 2009 at 8:21 am

    Joyce,
Have you published a lens on this account yet?

If not, publish something and come back to this.

Have you clicked Edit my bio ~ like in the picture above? If you have a new page should open and you will see a bunch of things you can change.

Here’s a pic of what it will look like:

    http://screencast.com/t/429N4btV

Once you’ve clicked the change button here’s what it will look like.

    Hope that is clearer. :)

  • 19 Joyce J // Mar 3, 2009 at 8:23 pm

I won’t tell you how long it was before I finally realized I was clicking on the wrong “change” button. Once I was on Squidoo, I was clicking on the “change picture” button within the red square as shown above. My husband, trying to help was also clicking on the same thing. I see now why I wasn’t getting anywhere. I’ll now try to continue.

    Hi,
I’ve created my first lenses with squidoo.
Everytime I get confused when they ask me to choose URL for the lense.
What is it and what should I put as URL ?
    Pls help.

  • 21 Robert Neill // Apr 24, 2009 at 6:36 am

    Hi Shyamala -

The url that you choose is the part of the domain address for your lens that comes after squidoo.com

You want it to include your keyword phrase.

So for instance, if you’re using the keyword phrase “poison tree frogs” - your url might be:

    squidoo.com/poisontreefrogs
    squidoo.com/poison-tree-frogs

    or if those are taken:

    squidoo.com/poisontreefrogstips
    squidoo.com/about-poison-tree-frogs

    In that direction …

    That help?

    Andrea :)

  • 22 Linda Servis // Apr 30, 2009 at 5:21 pm

I am confused about “general or topic” lenses. Since this is my first I don’t quite know what to do. Also we are supposed to move them to our specific campaign later, n’est-ce pas?

Also, I tried to read PotPieGirl’s lenses as she instructed, but they didn’t come up using her urls.

Also, all those additions to your bio are very murky to me. Will you be covering that later in the lessons.

    Thanks so much.

  • 23 Jackie and Andrea // Apr 30, 2009 at 6:45 pm

If you are doing a campaign for your first lenses then just create an account for your campaign. Later (and some may have come in with an account already created) you may want to do some “test” lenses ~ which are 1 lens on a topic you want to “try out” which is good to do in a “general” account so you can cover any topic you want.

she may have moved them, not sure.

You’ll have to be more specific about your confusion re bio additions for me to be able to help. :) If you are talking about the things covered in this lesson no they aren’t covered further, so ask questions and we’ll help you get clear. k?

  • 24 Carole Rowland // May 4, 2009 at 4:46 pm

Have checked out several of the photo sites, including the ones mentioned above.

This could get quite expensive starting out, if we do 6 lenses a week and each one has different photos.

Creative Commons seems to be the most reasonable, they only charge $1 for their smallest photo, is the size going to be OK for using on a lens?

    Any other suggestions for sites?

    Thanks,
    C

  • 25 Jackie and Andrea // May 4, 2009 at 4:50 pm

    Hey Carole,

All the options I provided are free. I have never paid for any of my images ~ other than the clip art cd I got on sale one day at office depot.

You need to look again, because you should be able to just do a search via creative commons and come up with image that fall within that guideline that you can use.

    Jackie

  • 26 Jackie and Andrea // May 4, 2009 at 4:52 pm

Did you click on either of the links because the creative commons link takes you directly to the search area where you simply search for an image based on what you are looking for. You can choose yahoo within that screen and then images, and it will bring you all the images within the creative commons license you can use for free.

    Jackie

  • 27 Carole Rowland // May 4, 2009 at 5:47 pm

Thanks a bunch. I am so glad I signed up for your tutorial. There is no way I would be this far (I know I still have a long way to go), but it really helps having some structured guidance.

And most of all, thanks for how quick you respond. It helps keep me on track.

    Pura Vida!!

Hi. Great comments everyone! I learn so much from your questions (and the answers of course). My question, I often use pictures from google search. I click the “images” button and then search for what I like and then copy them to my computer and use them in my campaigns. Are these “free”? I was thinking they were. Please advise.

  • 29 Jackie and Andrea // May 5, 2009 at 12:10 pm

You can’t just grab any image you want. There are copyright issues you may be violating. Your best bet is to use the search function from creative commons. If you use the ok for commercial use button you can use the images you find there legally.

    Jackie

  • 30 Shalisha Alston // May 5, 2009 at 12:15 pm

Oh… I’m glad you told me this. I will go on creative commons from now on.

  • 31 Russell Hart // May 5, 2009 at 8:39 pm

    Hi Jackie & Andrea
I may be a bit dense as I do find Squidoo a bit confusing. For starters, I’m only doing 3 lenses for my 1st camaoign. The Urls have been reserved, I’m now trying to personalise all 3.
My silly questions are these. Having personalised 1 lense, does this data automatically transfer to all 3? And secondly, how do I move from one lens site to another?
I hope these queries make sense to you.
    Regards
    Russell

  • 32 Russell Hart // May 5, 2009 at 8:56 pm

    Jackie & Andrea
Me again! I have a query about Creative Commons too. When Google C/C I get Flickr/Creative Commons and almost all Licence areas are ‘non-commcial’, except for the first ‘Attribution’ Licence when a credit needs to be given. Am I in the right area with this site?
    RUSSELL

  • 33 Jackie and Andrea // May 5, 2009 at 9:02 pm

    Russell,

The personalization in this post is for you main account profile, it only needs to be done once.

You can go from lens to lens via your dashboard ~ which is the “my lens” link at the top of the page when you log in.

Just use the link above to get to the right place in creative commons. Make sure to click the “use for commercial puposes” button on the top of the page, you should be able to find plenty of images that way.

  • 34 Ingrid Palmer // May 6, 2009 at 9:02 am

    Hi Jackie and Andrea:

I need to get this straight. Do I need a new squidoo account for each campaign. Since the bio area will reflect what the campaign is about.?

    thanks

  • 35 Jackie and Andrea // May 6, 2009 at 9:06 am

    Hi Ingrid -

For full blown campaigns, yes (unless they’re sort of related topics).

For test lenses, no. Move those to their own account once you’re ready to do a campaign.

    Andrea

  • 36 Russell Hart // May 7, 2009 at 1:26 am

Many thanks for solving my Creative Commons problem. It all works now. As far as Suidoo is concerned, I think I’ve goofed. As I said earlier, I’m only doing 3 lenses for my 1st campaign. I already had an A/C but I ignored this and started afresh. I reserved 3 urls, each one with a title based on one of my 3 selected keywords.
But I have no “main A/C”. Should I start one now? I don’t understand how a main A/C can relate to, or house, my product/keyword related lenses. Can you advise me on how this works, and what I should do now, please?
    Thanks
    RUSSELL

  • 37 Jackie and Andrea // May 7, 2009 at 4:31 am

    Hi Russell -

Probably your original Squidoo account can be used as you ‘main’ one for test lenses and such. Sounds like the way you have it set up now is perfect.

Separate account for your niche campaign … general account for misc stuff that might not warrant a full blown campaign yet.

    Andrea

  • 38 Carole Rowland // May 16, 2009 at 3:26 pm

For some reason I am getting confused on the BIO area and what I can actually put there. Can part of my text be the link to my product page or does my link have to be a separate line item?

    Thanks

  • 39 Carole Rowland // May 16, 2009 at 3:30 pm

I have done the Domain forwarding, is this what needs to go in my bio? If not, where should it go?

  • 40 Jackie and Andrea // May 16, 2009 at 3:48 pm

There are 2 separate areas for your bio. There is your profile bio ~ which will become the default bio for your lenses. And the bio area of your lenses.

You should do an overall bio on your profile, because when people click on your name to learn more about you there should be stuff there.

On your lens bio you should have a brief statement about who you are and have a link to your product using keyword anchor text link in it. If you have a domain forwarded to your product you can use that as the url you link with.

RE: your domain forward, that’s what you will use as the url for the links in your text modules and wherever else you are putting clickable links.

In your bio area there are spaces available for you to add a link to your twitter account, your blog, your facebook page, and a bunch of other places you hang out, that people can get to know you better.

G’mornin ladies, well I pulled an oopps! When I signed up for my main acct. Somehow I reserved my 6 lense urls under it instead of starting an acct specific to my chosen topic. So the picture I’ve chosen for that topic shouldn’t go on my main acct as that is reserved for my handsome(ahem!)mug shot. What to do?

Hi Ladies, and everyone else who might be reading:),

Could you clarify a few things for me please?
What is the difference between a lens URL and a lens TITLE? I have 5 lenses and I understand I have given all of them a URL and used the same words but without the .com as the TITLE when I start to complete the modules. (I hope that makes sense)!

I have just realised that I may have made a big mistake as only 3 of my lenses have a keyword that is the same in their titles. The other two are based on the same niche but with different keywords is this wrong?

Will leave it at that for now and go back to reading.
    Thanks
    Daisie (Thanks Andrea:))

  • 55 Jackie and Andrea // May 27, 2009 at 10:18 am

    Daisie,

The url is the actual address of your lens ~ it is what shows up in the address bar at the top of the page ~ it is the one thing you can’t change.

Your title is the name of your lens ~ you can change this at any time, if you choose.

You definitely want your keywords in your lens title as well as your module titles. This is explained in lessons as you go. So keep reading, and let us know if you still aren’t clear. ~ you can use the related posts to comment.

    Jackie

  • 56 Daisie // May 27, 2009 at 10:42 am

    Hi Jackie,
    Still can’t quite grasp this.

on each of my lenses I get http://www.squidoo.com/What the name of my lens is. showing in the browser and again at the top of the page under where it says make a new lens -top 100- etc etc, it has the word edit lens (in blue box) next to it, I was under the impression that this was my URL on the site, how can I check that I have a URL?
sorry to keep on, just trying to understand.
    Daisie

  • 58 John McDonald // Jun 10, 2009 at 5:55 am

    Hello there,

I’d like some clarification re use of images, please. It states at creativecommons.org that their LEAST restrictive licence is “attribution”, under which you “must give the original author credit”. That’s fair enough and I’m happy to comply, but I don’t see this happening on other lenses.

At photobucket.com, there are loads of images which would be perfect for the niche I’m trying to get started on. Indeed, several of them have clearly been used in other lenses (without any credit). I’m wondering if this site works like YouTube, where I think you are free to download and “embed” in your website.

I want to get started on the right foot. I mean I clearly would not copy and paste an ezine article say, without including author bio. That would be plagiarism.

Is it better to to pay to use images, maybe, and if so where do you recommend I go?

  • 59 Jackie and Andrea // Jun 10, 2009 at 6:54 am

    Hi John -

Yes most people don’t seem to be following the rules do they :-/

I have a favorite site which has both a free and for purchase section. When I need to buy an image this is the place I check:

    http://stockphotos.learnitstepbystep.com

Always search their free image section first though - it has a lot of great images in it.

    Andrea

  • 60 Barbara Paine // Jun 24, 2009 at 11:17 pm

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but since I’m trying to upload pictures to my lens it seems to fit (since it talks about uploading pics for our bio).

I was under the impression that we should open an account with photobucket and have the images we plan to use hosted online. I’m not honestly sure why we want to do that (as opposed to having them saved on our hard-drive and uploading them from there.)

So — I opened an account at photobucket, placed several images that I wanted to use on my campaign lenses in an album there and went to upload them to my lens.

However, I’m not sure how to get to the pictures I have stored at photobucket. When I click “browse” it immediately goes to my picture folder on my hard drive.

    Am I doing something wrong?

  • 61 Breakthroughguy // Jul 31, 2009 at 5:28 am

    Jackie & Andrea,

I noticed how PPG optimized the use of the bio area for Nick. In Nick’s bio area, he had a sort of a graphic in there and linked to his affiliate product. I will like to create one in the future.

As my niche is marginally a health and fitness niche and categorized as such in Squidoo, I have added a disclaimer to my bio area about the content being presented for info purposes only..
Other than the bio area, is there a better spot to place the disclaimer?

    Thanks

    Greg

  • 62 Jackie and Andrea // Jul 31, 2009 at 5:42 am

    Hi Greg -

I think I would put a second one in a text module at the very bottom also. That’s where people expect to see them so it won’t get in the way and those that need to see that you’re complying will see it straight away.

Just my opinion though - know what I mean?

    Andrea

  • 63 George Varghese // Nov 12, 2009 at 4:28 am

    Hi ladies
I created the squidoo account with the campaign idea in mind. But in the name column I have given my real name only.In your earlier posting you have mentioned that you used” frying queen” in ur “fry a turkey” campaign. Should I change my real name to something realated to my niche? My other question is should I have one general account followed by my niche accounts?

  • 64 Jackie and Andrea // Nov 12, 2009 at 5:44 am

    Hi George -

I decide what hat (name) to wear depending on the topic. If it’s something that it makes sense to be public about knowing, then I use my name - otherwise a pen or topic specific name makes more sense.

It’s nice to have a general account where you can plop new ideas - then expand your ‘real estate’ as needed.

    Andrea :)

  • 65 Melvin Cole // Dec 6, 2009 at 4:58 pm

You mention that you can put a link in you bio area. Could this be a link to the product you are selling. Giving two links to the same product on the same squidoo lens.

  • 66 Jackie and Andrea // Dec 6, 2009 at 5:20 pm

You will probably have 5 to 7 links to the same product in your lens by the time you are done. It’s fine. :)

Do I drop the laggers now? Or, do I continue updating all 3?All have been indexed for about 2 weeks and have moved out of the cellar just fine. Thanks, Merry Christmas, Glad your here. Larry

  • 68 Jackie and Andrea // Dec 24, 2009 at 12:38 pm

    Hi Larry -

You mean moving up within Squidoo? Those numbers don’t matter too much - what we’re really looking for is Search Engine traffic.

Thing to do is to complete the OWM process for this niche/phrases and move on. They have to simmer a bit and prove themselves before spending too much time on them.

Have you completed all of the lessons for this niche? If not - get to it :) - if so, time to hit the ‘ol keyword research again and maybe do a series of test lenses now that you know how.

The wider the topic base you cover, the more likely you are to uncover the ones that’ll work out for you in the end.

    See what I mean?

    Merry Christmas!

In the structure of the lessons we went from making a Squidoo account that was specifically said to be our main account, and then to reserving the URLs for the 6 or so lenses for our first campaign from within that account. This assumes, tho, that the 6 lenses are only test lenses. If I want to really do the full campaign with these URL’s I reserved, I will need to create a new Squidoo account with bio area, bio pic and everything geared towards the campaign niche, then transfer the URL’s to that new account. Am I understanding this correctly?

    Hi Gary -

Yes you’ll want a gmail and squidoo account specific to your niche.

This is the first paragraph of the first lesson:

“When you set up an account at Squidoo you will have to have an email address. For your first account you can use whatever email address you like, but when you start creating accounts for specific campaigns you want to create an email that will go with that campaign.”

    Hope that helps,

    Andrea

    Hi Girls,

Just a quick question. Down the bottom it says about your squidoo profile not being connected to your Facebook profile. Is making a Facebook profile with our campaign idea something we should be thinking about? I do have a Facebook account but its a personal one.

    Thanks again ladies.
You certainly do a great job.

    Hi Sharyn -

Nope don’t need to worry about Facebook for OWM.

Profile Bio question - Is it ok to have one account/username and profile bio that you want to brand in a particular niche, and have multiple campaigns for different products all under that account?

All products are in the niche, but address different sub-markets. You would end up with lots of lenses under that account, but you would be building a brand authority presence.

    Thanks very much

    yes that is fine.

So the step-by-step would be to open an account with username/profile bio for branding, then transfer existing lenses to this new “master” account, right?

The goal is for these transferred lenses to lose their former username identity and fall under the “master.” Will that be the case?

    Thank you

    Hi Larry -

Yeah if you’re building an authority grouping - to basically dominate Squidoo - yeah that’ll work.

But really if you think about it - multiple usernames could be okay too so long as they’re linked together.

    Hi Girls,

I just have a question. I have a main account with squidoo that I have started with my 1st. campaign. Now this is using my real name and username, now what I want to know is how do I set up this 1st. campaign to have it’s own username, bio and image under this one account. Everytime I start a new campaign do I set the default picture and bio to whatever is related to the campaign. I just want to know if that’s what I do???? I hope you understand what I mean. Thanks

If you are creating a new account for each campaign you’ll have to start at lesson 1 get a new gmail account, then get a new squidoo account. Yes, you’ll want a username and image related to the topic.

Can you tell me how to insert the “Buy Now” button on my lens? I have the page set up and have the Paypal acct. set up already.

You haven’t given me any additional information to work with David. I have never put a paypal button on a lens so I can’t share personal experience of doing it with you. I will again share this lens that will show you how to do it though: http://www.squidoo.com/add-paypal-buttons

And, no where in OWM does it call for you creating paypal buttons or adding them to your lens. OWM is about selling other people’s things, and they accept the money and do all that stuff. :)
